Cloth Diapering

Wool reccamedtions

So I want to give wool a try. I've been using disposables overnight and am having issues. I had ammonia problems before with cloth at night, but I've tweeked my wash routine and want to try again. I don't really want to stretch out my covers by useing them over a TTNN. So I am going to buy some wool. What brands does everyone like? Can I use the lantosh lanolin stuff from nursing or do I need to buy some thing different? Also if anyone has gently used wool I may be interested!

Yes, Lanisoh brand lanolin works just fine, but it's really expensive, I think, for regular re-lanolizing of wool. I buy a big tub of lanolin off Amazon and it works great and will last so much longer. It was like essentially 1/10 the cost of Lanisoh, so I recommend that. I use the pull-up style Loveybums wool, and I love it. Their pull-up style now comes with a thicker soaker area/wet zone, and it's great.

  • Disanas are good for the price. Also you can make your own if you knit or sew.
  • I agree. While I've never tried them, Disanas get tons of love and they seem great for the price.

  • I want to try it, but still haven't had the time to figure it all out.
I asked this same question on my local CD board on Fb last week,
and they recommended this WAHM on Etsy.
They said she is super fast, and her prices are clearly way better than Sloomb.

  • I also love our Disana pull-on. Once I found the instructions specific to this item on GMD (lanolize a few times before use, and rub wet zone when wet to felt it up a bit) I was really sold. Plus you can size up and get tons of use out of them.

  • Thanks everyone. I think I am going to try disana first. They seem to get lots of love and aren't too expensive. If I like them I may give a wahm a try. I'm just afraid to get something that is untested and possibly less effective that could cause loss of wool love. I will start lanolinizing with the lantosh that I have. Someone told DH to not let me run out while nursing so he kept on buying it every time he saw it somewhere. Needless to say I have a ton of it!

I like Disana for night time. Those cover from etsy are made from recycling sweaters, in my opinion those are more for daytime than for night time. For night time the wool needs to be tick, that's why most of people love Disana because they put doble layers of the knitting fabric, and the ones the are hand made the yarn is thicker and it's easy to felt it.

  • Is it aroblem if the wool felts? What happens?

  • Is better when the wool is felt it,is more warm, and adsorb the urine better. Just made sure when you lanolize the cover, you have the right amount of water, and the right amount of lanoline.

  • When wool felts, it gets denser but also loses a bit of its springiness. I'm not sure how this affects waterproofness, but the cover will still work well. I can't remember where I read that some people prefer to hand-felt the wet zone on the Disanas, but this will also just happen on its own over time.
