Bra Woes

I have searched this topic but haven't found a reliable answer, hoping some of you with experience might be able to help me out. I am a normally large chested woman, 34f. At the beginning of this pregnancy I had to go up to a G cup size to accommodate my growing boobs. Now nearing the end of my 2nd trimester I am growing out of the g cup as well. I have read that underwire bras can sometimes cause breast infections and mastitis in the 3rd trimester and during the nursing stage. Because my boobs are already so large and I know they will grow even more I am reluctant to purchase another underwire bra in a bigger size. Do any of you have recommendations for supportive nonunderwire bras that will accommodate my larger chest size? I'm not having any luck looking at typical maternity stores. Also I am hesitant to purchase something online if the store does not have a good return policy because of fitting issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Bra Woes

  • I am having this same issue! I'm a smaller framed woman but have a large bust size even before pregnancy. Now it is about impossible to find a bra.

  • The Nordstrom isn't too far from my house. I've never actually been inside the store though. I will definetly check it out. Thank you.

this is my struggle too. I am too tired to look for a solution though. :((

This!!! Same exact problem abs way too tired to go shopping or put forth that much effort.

  • I also started as a 34F and am now up to a 36/38G. (I. Hate. My. Boobs.) I have worn basically nothing but sports bras in the past few months (I have bought new ones - twice) to harness these obnoxious torpedoes. I wear these because I find them super comfy and supportive (and they are wire free): https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0039O32UE/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER#mobile-twister_color_name_1418726778917

I figure no point in buying nursing bras at this stage since I'll probably just get bigger by then, but having a couple of sports bras for every stage isn't too bad an idea since I hope to continue going to the gym pretty regularly.

  • I get too frustrated with bra shopping that I rarely do it
  • My biggest problem is I have to have something. I work in a preschool and spend all day on the floor or bending over tables and talking to kids. I can't continue to wear these bras that I am spilling out of. It isn't professional. I am going to check out Nordstrom and see what I can find. I figure if the cups are stretchy enough it might fit for awhile yet.
  • I am a 42DD and I can't do underwire. I found some nursing bras at Target that are super comfortable and actually pretty supportive with no underwire. I can't remember the brand, but they don't carry many nursing bra brands anyways.

  • I am used to spending money on bras. They are worth the investment because walking around without them makes me feel loose and sloppy. I would rather spend good money on a bra than outer clothing any day. It would be really nice to go back and use some of these bras though.

Please check Nordstrom. You will not be disappointed. Tell then you want something with stretch and buy an extender as well--there or somewhere else. It'll get you a little extra time. I went from a 38GG and I'm now pushing my way out of a 40L. This will be my FOURTH growth spurt this pregnancy. The extender bought me an extra 6 weeks. A good fitter is worth her weight in gold. I contemplated bringing Eva at the Oak Brook Mall a Christmas gift this year because she worked overtime on me!!

  • I am a little late to this conversation, but I agree with the others about Nordstrom. I have only been in twice since finding out how awesome they were about 1 1/2 years ago. Both times, they never measured me, and walked in with bras that fit PERFECT. They are just that good. I know that is where I will be getting my nursing bras. Speaking as a woman who is a 38H or HH depending on the brand, I know how hard it is to find a large bra that has no underwire at all. It is my understanding that the chances of the problems mentioned earlier are not as high if the bra fits correctly. And mine are quite comfortable...except after maybe 16 hours  Good luck!

Also have to agree with Nordstroms. I started out a 32gg UK size. Since then they have kept growing. The lingerie store by my house that specializes in "larger cup sizes" only caries US sizes and stops at an I (U.K. Size g). This is no help. She can order a larger size but doesn't refund orders. It also doesn't help that I am now fitting into a 34H/HH depending on the manufacturer.

So over the bridge to Tampa to go to Nordstroms. There in store they carry most UK sized bras and can order larger and maternity. Also freya makes a pretty nice wirefree bra. I also second the extender.
  • a properly fitted underwire can be just fine.  I found it more comfortable to go wireless above a G/H cup for my frame.

I go to a specialty bra shop for fittings.

My favorite no-wire was by Anita...but I was a 42/44 I/J at the time...not sure what options there are for smaller bands.

Go get fitted or order from a place that has easy returns.  Herroom, lindathbralady, amazon...

  • I was having this same issue, the weight pressing on the underwire caused bruising and i was so uncomfortable. I found really great bras at kohls, which surprised me. They are vanity fair wire free. The tag says full figure back smoother. I would check online for them or at a kohls if you are near one!! I love them and paid $38 each for them. Good luck!
