Breastfeeding

weaning help

My LO just turned 8 months old and has been EBF. I'm interested in weaning to formula now. I'm trying not to beat myself up for it because there's nothing wrong with FF, but it's still hard. Anyway, some of my questions are:

1) Any particular formula I need to use? Supplementation kind, or any?

2) Do I mix it in with breastmilk for a while or just jump right in with a formula bottle?

3) Since he's 8 months, should I skip the bottle and put formula in a sippy?

I'm thinking I will do it slowly and will probably continue to breastfeed at night or before naps. I really have no clue though- any advice? Thanks!

Re: weaning help

  • Sorry no advice with formula, but I do want to say a few things.

Your LO is only 8 months, so I think you have a good chance of losing your supply of you aren't pumping to replace the formula bottles. You seem to be totally okay with combo feeding, so I'm not trying to sway your decision to introduce formula. Just don't be surprised if you lose your supply.

It sounds like you haven't introduced bottles, so I would just do straw cups with formula

  • He gets bottles every now and then. He will take them, but he likes to play with them more so. Maybe I'll stick with a bottle until I find a sippy he likes. I guess I will keep pumping for now and slowly drop sessions until he's fully weaned.

    Thanks!
