Extended BFers--Weaning Daytime Pumps

My DD is almost 13 months now and I'm currently pumping 1x/day M-F and yielding 1.5-2.5oz/pump. I still nurse her on the weekends all day, but I have no idea how much she's really getting during the daytime hours of 8-5pm. I know she gets a good amount first thing in the morning as I'm a bit more full, and I don't think she gets very much at bedtime. I give her water that she can drink all day long on the weekends, but am wondering if I should be offering her WCM for at least one meal to ensure she's getting adequate calcium and whatever else milk is good for. I offer her yogurt and/or cheese daily so I really just don't know one way or another if she needs more milk. Thoughts?

  • doesn't sound like she'd need WCM- she's still nursing, getting other sources of calcium, and you're offering her water.

however, you might want to start offering WCM here or there if you plan on sending her to DC with a BM substitute once you stop pumping, just so she gets used to the taste. but again, really optional if she's getting other dairy/calcium and still nursing.

  • Yeah she gets some BM and WCM during the weekdays at daycare, it's more the weekends I'm wondering if I should give her some WCM at lunch.

I'm nursing probably 5-7x/day on the weekends but only the morning session is a lot of milk, the other sessions are super short.

  • Can't hurt to offer? It took DD 6 months to be at all interested in WCM (and now she'll drink maybe two ounces at a time), but as long as she's getting adequate liquids/calcium/calories I wouldn't worry too much about it.
