Carrier Recs for Nursing - Small Chested

I have a baby due later this year and a 2 year old DD that I nursed till 18 months. My DD was never really a carrier kid no matter how hard I tried (she didn't like much till around 6 months old), so I never really nursed in a carrier with her. The few times I tried in a Moby I remember it being challenging to say the least and never successful. I have a Moby and a Beco Gemini right now, but I'm just wondering if there is a better option for carrier nursing for small chested moms? There is no way I'm going to be able to move my boobs (I was at most a B cup fully engorged), so baby is just going to have to be able to be positioned right in the carrier. Any recommendations from anyone that has struggled with this or found a good option?

  • I didn't have the Beco till my DD was almost 6 months old and she would never put up with it. I guess I'm not at all sure how good it is for newborns. I've been debating a ring sling, but I wasn't sure how that would work for nursing. I have a couple friends that have nursed in them but all much larger chested. Good to know that might be an option.

  • Okay well one hand free to toddler wrangle is better than no hands! I need to get this next baby happy in a carrier early on...Thank you!
  • I "like" this woman on Facebook. She just posted this video this week showing how to nurse in a mei tai catbird carrier. She is pretty small chested as well.

  • A meit tai could be an option also. It seems easier to adjust down to nurse when needed than the Beco would. I think that is my biggest concern with the Beco and similar carriers. I think the baby's head would be too high up. Thank you!!

I nursed in the Ergo pretty successfully - ditto descriptions of the Beco - just loosen until baby is low enough to find your boob (I'm a B cup). As others mentioned, it was really only possible once she had decent head control and could nurse in a vertical position.

I did nurse sometimes in the ring sling, but I found the structured carrier easier (and also more discreet, as it was "hidden" enough to nurse while walking down the street or whatever).
