Dropping naps?

so we are on a week now that DS has dropped his late nap. I thought this typically happened a little later but nope he will fight tooth and nail to not go down for that last nap. He was 8 mo on the 30th. Anyone else there yet? We are down to two now. Not to mention he's staying up about 3-3.5 hours now instead of 2.

Re: Dropping naps?

  • Ok yeah I thought so but just wanted to make sure. He would take a nap about 8am then about 1130 and then about 3. Now he's up til about 9 and then until about 1. This kid loves his sleep though. He sleeps 11-12 hours a night and then would take 3 naps about an hour longz guess our babies are growin' up!

  • We have been with only 2 since she was 3 months old. She sleep about 13 hours at night and takes 2 naps during the day. One short one and one long one.

  • We are still at three and they are very needed! Her first nap is early usually within an hour of waking so around 8am, second is usuly 11:30 in the carrier or car on the way home from stroller strides, and the 3rd is home is bed for about an hour around 2-3pm. Sometimes I even get her to snooze for 20 mins at the end of our afternoon walk around 5pm. Bedtime is 7. I feel lucky daytime sleep is predictable because nights are all over the place!!
  • We've been doing 2 naps for months. She started staying up 3 hours, not 2 since about 6.5m old.

  • same here: DS hit 7.5 months and has dropped his third nap. morning nap begins 9-930ish, and lasts for 1-1.5 hrs. afternoon nap begins around 130-2, and is usualy 2ish hours. we moved bedtime up from 7 to 630, and it's working faily well. he tried to stick with 7, but he turns into a grumpy a-hole around 615, so 630 is the new norm.
  • We're down to 2 naps. About 2 hour in total so those naps vary in length depending on the day. Average is an hour each time.

We struggle with the pm nap as he takes it too early sometimes so I end up with an exhausted child by 6 pm when bedtime is 7. But his first nap is 9 am every day and he wants that nap then.
  • We have been at two naps since about 6 months. P will stay up for 4+ hours Inbetween second nap and bed.

DS is down to 2 naps a day unless they are short. If he doesn't sleep very long he will take 3.

This is us for a while now. Usually I get a 40 min to an hour nap and another 30-40 min one. She's been ready for bed around 6 though now which has been kind of nice since she stays up longer and takes such short naps. But if she take 2 30 minute naps then I can usually get a 3rd one out of her.

  • Normal.

My dd is still at three naps, but that's likely bc big bro tends to wake her. Normal to drop to two naps around now, one around a year (was 13 months for my DS), and none somewhere around age 3.

@sstwinklinglites‌ Gave me a link to a website and I literally just read an article on this yesterday. It gives a sample schedule of dropping the third nap and how to move each nap later and bed time. It's time for another sleep regression- yay!

Wow! Awesome read! This is so us. And his schedule is on point I guess. Now we need to transision into the second one. Thanks!! @sstwinklinglites‌
  • DD does one nap at daycare, 12:30-2:30, but more on weekends, usually three. She sleeps a ton on weekends I think to catch up on sleep she missed during the week. She sleeps 12hrs at night.
  • Mine is trying to drop his 2nd nap.   He only took one on Friday and Sunday and he's currently fighting it today.

  • Thanks comicsans.  I was just thinking that maybe I need to move the start of his afternoon nap out by 30 minutes.   I can't decide whether to try to consistent or try to find something else that works better for him

  • DD has started dropping the third nap in the last few weeks. We're lucky to get one solid nap since we started sleep training for naps, but she certainly gets tired enough for two!

Thanks for the link, @becole42‌, that is helpful!
