High-Risk Pregnancy

Klonopin and Trileptal

Hi,

I take klonopin 4mg per day and trileptal 900 mg per day. I take it for bipolar disorder but I know people also take for epilepsy. I went to a genetic counselor and she said there is a slight risk for fetal malformations but its better to stay on the meds in case of a relapse. Does anyone have any personal experience wih these meds while pregnant and how was your baby? Thanks for any feedback.

Re: Klonopin and Trileptal

  • My first pregnancy I was on klonopin when I became pregnant...and I was told to get off it immediately by at least three doctors. Is there anything else you can take? I think my dosage was .5mg a day. It was for tremors. Now, that being said I did not have a condition like yours and symptoms like yours. Those are unique to you..so if your doctor is saying the benefit outweighs the risk that may very well be the case. If you feel uncomfortable about it, is there anyway to get a second opinion? Maybe from a high risk doc for pregnancy?
