Hi Everybody !! 
My husband and i are starting the adoption process. I was wondering if anyone had an adoption attorney or agency that they loved in The DC/ Northern VA area ? We are at a loss as where to start and googling gives me an overwhelming amount of information, so i was hoping someone here might be able to point us in the right direction. Thanks in advanced !! 


Me - 32 Unexplained IF
DH- 32 SA Normal
Married and TTC since 2/12 
BFP -7/12 ( only one since)
Loss 8/12
Met with RE 9/12
All testing Clear 
Weight loss Surgery 2/13
Back to RE 1/14
IUI # 1 50mg Clomid, 75iu Bravell and Ovidrel trigger 3/14 - BFNIUI # 2 50mg Clomid, 150iu Bravell and Ovidrel trigger 4/14 - BFNCurrently taking a break IVF Consult 5/22/14aiming for August IVF

    Welcome!  I'm not in your area, so I can't suggest an agency.  I would choose a few that look good based on their websites and then attend an info session with them or ask them lots of questions over the phone. :)  GL!

    I live in MN, so I cant indicate any, but like previous post, I strongly recommend you to go to multiple agencies orientations before you decide. They are very different from each other. Also, I just learnt this but you dont need to be "stuck" only with agencies in your state, you can go to others too! Good luck!

    It is overwhelming! One day I grabbed my computer, went to a coffeeshop and made phone calls.  After about 2 hours I felt like I had my agency picked out.

    Hi and welcome!
    We live in PA, but my agency (Adoptions From The Heart) has an office in your state. 
    I havent had any interaction with their Virginia office, but I can't say enough about every single person I have encountered (now 2) PA offices. Feel free to PM me for any questions.

    Hi and welcome, I moved from the fairfax city area to NY in 2013 just as we were deciding to begin the adoption process.  I was looking into Bethany Christian Services because we thought we would do a domestic adoption.  We also looked into Cradle of Hope because we were thinking international would be best for us and we were thinking Colombia.  They both had really good info sessions for what we needed. When we moved to NY we decided to adopt from Peru and with no agencies that work there around we are using an agency in AL.  Believe it or not its not as bad as you'd think to use one so far and do things long distance.  So far it is working for us.  Bottom line don't be afraid to use ANY agency that you feel fits your family's needs best because of distance.

    January 2014--Picked Agency, had informational Meeting and turned in Application
    June      2014--Started our Home Study (all paperwork &fingerprinting that ensued)
    August  2014--Finished our Home Study and Officially Waiting

    Welcome! This is an awesome board. Everyone is very respectful, very helpful and basically the best board on the internet. 

    I third the agency used by Wish Upon A Star and Dr. Loretta. We are currently in the home study process with them so far with their NJ office and have been happy with them so far. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

    Also if you decide to go the private route with a lawyer we met an awesome lawyer in the DC area at an adoption conference. I will be happy to dig up his name if you want.

    Welcome! This board is incredibly helpful.
    I don't have any information to share that hasn't already been added, but I definitely second the advice to just take a few hours and make some phone calls. That's what we did and we are very happy with our agency.

    After many failed rounds of IF tx and closing that chapter, we're raising and adopting DH's bio nephew, born Sept 2013.
