Cloth Diapering

Intro & Question

Hi Y'all!

I'm new to the CDing world! Well, I had a ton of BG Elementals with DS1, but I was working full time and never ended up doing it. I sold them all. Around 9 months, I quit teaching and wished I would've kept them. Now I'm pg with Baby #3 and want to CD. I've already learned a ton while lurking, so thanks!

As far as the newborn stage goes, I keep going back and forth between disposables and getting a NB stash.
I'm looking at the GMD workhorses and covers. Where can I find the best fitting covers for those? How many dipes and covers would I need to wash every other day?

Thanks!!!

Re: Intro & Question

  • for nb, you want 36 changes for EOD.
If you went all workhorses, thats 36 workhorses, and 6-8 covers.

Anb stash is well worth it. If I had to choose and only CD either nb or OS, it would be nb. Nb is when you go through 12-15 diapers a day. They pee during changes, and poop as soon as you change them. I am sure you remember going through 3-4 diapers in a matter of minutes. Nb stashes have great resale value, since they are worn for such a short time.

GMD's website has pictures of lots of different covers over prefolds and workhorses.

  • all of what MrsHudson said. We didn't have a NB stash with DD1, but did with DD2 and I so much preferred having cloth for the NB stage.  The dirty diapers go straight into the wash, no spraying or dunking or anything. and workhorses are amazing. the NB size is perfect for a good 6-8 weeks for most babies (even 9lb-ers!). You can go to smalls or skip and have bulky mediums for a while. I did NB then smalls and then switched to AI2 systems for the OS stage.  But I could totally have stuck with workhorses forever if we didn't already have a OS stash.

Covers are preference, really. I liked the Thirsties Duo Wrap size 1 and Sweetpea NBs, but was not a fan of the Rumparooz. Others loved the RaRs.  Buy a couple of each and see what you like and what fits.

And NB diapers, especially GMD workhorses have great resale value, so you'll get a good portion of your money back. :)

    Congrats!

  • Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm going to get some workhorses and covers before switching to AIOs and pockets.
