Sooo that really happened (in the waiting room)

I had an appointment today and I barely heard my name get called because there was suddenly a rush of people up to the desk all at the same time (everyone from patients to random delivery guys to people who got lost and were in the wrong building). My personal favorite? A couple who was seriously pissed off and was ranting at one of the receptionists because apparently they had the Panorama blood test done, and they KNOW for a FACT, one hundred PERCENT that they checked the box to tell them their baby's "gender" and it wasn't included in the results.

Assuming that everything else with the blood test came back normal...dude, seriously? I get being disappointed thinking you were going to find out and you didn't (especially if it was an oversight or a lab screw-up), but it's not like this is going to be one of the great unsolved mysteries of the ages. Wait a couple weeks (or a few more months) and all will be revealed.

I wonder if they'll pop up asking opinions about the "gender" of their ultrasound pictures....

  • I can kind of understand why they would be pissed. Yes, the test is actually to make sure the baby doesn't have any genetic disorders, but some people do it solely to find out the sex early. It would be twice as upsetting if they paid out of pocket, since the test can be very expensive.

  • This and the other sex thread going around today make me so happy with my decision to be team green. One less thing to stress out about if things don't go quite my way.

Sure, I can understand their annoyance. But certainly not throwing a tantrum at a doctors office. You know, where people are trying to receive medical care.

  • I'm not team green but I don't understand the rush to find out the sex of the baby. I can wait patiently until my 20 week scan. And I'm a ftm!!

I agree, definitely no excuse to throw a temper tantrum… but I've seen it done at my OB's office for less. I'm not really surprised by the entitled bullshit people pull anymore.

  • I get why someone would be upset if they were one of those special snowflakes who paid for it only to find out the sex, but it doesn't make me want to kick them in the teeth any less.
Yep, pretty much sums it up for me. Honestly, I guess I'd be pissed too if I spent hundreds on it for that sole purpose...but it's not like finding out the sex is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that never comes around again. And whatever happened, it certainly wasn't the fault of the poor woman who just answers the phones.

  • It never ceases to amaze me how people act when they dont get their way. Le sigh.

You took the words right out of my mouth!!
  • When I received my Panorama results, finding out the sex of the baby was almost an afterthought since I was so relieved to hear that the test came back normal.  I was so relieved at that point you could have told me that I would be birthing a unicorn that poops rainbows and I would have been over the moon thrilled about it.

I get being annoyed that they didn't check the box.  Heck, we've all made dumb mistakes.  But life does go on.

  • I waited patiently for our 20 week scan and then ds had the balls to not show anything for the test so we were forced to be team green the first time and I seriously didn't care. I was hoping to get confirmation on my guess but I knew I'd find out one way or the other eventually. I'm not paying for unnecessary medical procedures.
