Trouble TTC

Newbie: Excited to be moving forward (loss mentioned)

Hey everyone,

I have been lurking for a bit now on the TTC board but i thought now that I have hit the 12 month mark I would introduce myself here. My name is Ashley, my husband and i have been married for about 2 years and have been TTC for a year. I have "suspected endometriosis," yet to be surgically confirmed because my symptoms, while painful, are manageable.

We had a miscarriage in July, which sucked, but gives me hope that we know we can get pregnant. I have gone through many different emotions during this process; frustration, anger, jealousy but now I am at the point where i just want to move on to the next step.

After our MC in July my OB said just to let her know once it had been a year and she would refer us to the fertility specialist. What she failed to mention is that their is no RE in her medical group and that any outside fertility services wouldn't be covered. What they do offer is a visit with an NP who specializes in fertility that would assess us, order tests and then make recommendations on treatment options to her.

So far in my lurking i have learned that you don't want to get treatment from an OB but any reason why we shouldn't go through whatever testing they cover and see what they recommend? I assume we could give all of those results to what ever RE we end up going to to save some money?

Re: Newbie: Excited to be moving forward (loss mentioned)

  • Welcome to 3T!

    I'm sorry for your loss.

Wow, this is a tough situation. I would say, go ahead and move forward with a complete testing workup, but do not let an NP call the shots on your treatment plan. Bringing the results to an RE consult makes sense - maybe even call and get an appointment on the calendar! :) I would absolutely want an RE to make the call on whether you needed a surgery for your suspected endo - it can make a big difference and I wouldn't want to leave that decision up to anyone but an RE.

  • Hi and Welcome! Sorry you find yourself here and so sorry for your loss.

Maybe try to call the RE to set up an appointment and ask about if they will accept testing from your OB. That way you'll know ahead of time what you can have done. My RE did accept the blood tests that had ben done by my OB, but not every place is like this as PP said. Good luck!
  • Welcome! Sorry for your struggles and I wish you the best here.
  • Hi and welcome! I'm so sorry for your loss.

My RE allowed me to do the HSG and bring regular bloodwork from my OB. All other testing was done through RE.  I will suggest go through the RE for the SA testing. I did mine thru the OB and the lab they used did not specialize in fertility and we did not get the correct protocol treatment due to not wanting to spend the extra $$ which ended up costing us time, heartache and even more money. Good luck and I hope your stay with us is a short one.

  • Welcome.  I'm very sorry for your loss.  I'm glad you're taking all the advice given on this board about seeing and RE vs and OB to heart.  I'm sorry about the coverage situation.  You are definitely not alone in that, unfortunately.

I would certainly get whatever testing you can get covered completed, but also maybe call some local RE offices to see what their policies are on outside results.  That way you'll at least have a head's up.

    Good luck!
