Re: Breastfeeding checkin

  • How's breastfeeding going this week? Any issues? Good. She's starting to go longer between feedings during the day and longer at night too, woot!

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night? 7.5months, goes 2-4hours during the day, depending on her distraction level, and about 3-4hours at night. Eats food when we eat, sometimes it's purees/mashed food, sometimes it's steamed veggies BLW-style.

Raves and rants? So glad she is starting to sleep better at night. I got a full 5 hours last night. But having to stay awake for feedings and to put her back in her crib has me way more tired than bed sharing!

Anything else you want to share?
It's also adorable how she will not let us eat without giving her food too. She'll screech until she gets some!

Its going well, she's back to pinching me though...not fun

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night?
7.5 months and about 2-3 hours day AND night :( We've been giving purees at dinner and just started oatmeal this morning (love/hate with that one). And her longest stretch at night is about 3, maybe 3.5 hours if I'm lucky.

    Raves and rants?
Over the past week she added another motn feeding and is only sleeping about 3 hours at a time, its driving me nuts. She's mobile and everything, so I know that might have something to do with it, but I need some sleep too!

Anything else you want to share?
Just the above, not sleeping well here and only able to get her back down if I nurse her.

How's breastfeeding going this week? Any issues? Going well still. I'm able to nurse in the mornings and evenings and I pump once or twice a day at work. Since dropping 1-2 pump sessions throughout the day, my milk production has decreased drastically. I know that DD is still getting breast milk in the mornings/evenings and at least 1 bottle a day at daycare.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night? DD is 33 weeks. She eats every 3-4 hours. She gets breakfast (oatmeal/eggs/fruit), lunch (usually vegetables/fruit/protein), snack (yogurt), and dinner (whatever I'm making that night). We do BLW and she is eating ALL the food. DD is sleeping 10-12 hours straight at night.

Raves and rants? Rave: Still BFing at almost 8 months in - very excited about that! Rant: DD was sick last week - she has an ear infection and we're on antibiotics, but her appetite was basically gone. She drank maybe 10 oz a day and had no interest in solid foods. She's back to her normal self again, but it was so hard to see her that way.

Anything else you want to share? I nursed DD in the warehouse section of IKEA. That was new.

Also, I need to look into weaning and I'm super sad about it. I didn't think I'd be that sad about it, but its our time and I'm going to miss it so much.

  • How's breastfeeding going this week? Any issues?

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night? Baby girl is now 7.5 months. She nurses about every 2-3 hours. She eats a different amount of solids each day (some days I want to focus more on nursing), but she can eat 4.5 ounces of oatmeal or other puree at one sitting, plus puffs or whatever else I give her off my plate (meat, veggies, bread, etc). She eats a lot. She sleeps about 4-6 hours before needing to nurse again. We aren't weaning her yet.

Raves and rants? I'm happy that we may make my goal of BF for one year. I'm happy she doesn't have teeth yet. My husband is happy that he can give baby girl some regular food or a puree instead of breast milk if I'm not available at the moment. He enjoys the time feeding her. (We make up the milk later.)

Anything else you want to share? There don't seem to be enough stories on TB or on Reddit about BF having gone easy for new moms. Everyone tells new moms that it's hard, and I feel like they make it sound really scary. It makes me wonder if those who had trouble are the only ones who happen to be posting or if it's truly lucky that BF came easy and problem-free to us. I don't even get grief from strangers when I NIP without a cover, though I'm ready if I do! If I'm just a lucky person, then I'm truly grateful to have this opportunity with baby girl and I'm going to be really sad when it's over.

How's breastfeeding going this week? Any issues?
Breastfeeding is going well, LO has 4 teeth but very rarely bites, which is good, obviously.
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night?
LO is 8 months, I nurse him in the morning and at night, but he gets 3-4 bottles a day while I'm at work. He gets 3 meals of solids, a combination of grains, fruits, veggies, and/or chicken. He hates if we are eating and he isn't, and will nibble on pretty much any cut-up food. He has slept 11-12 hours, but now wakes up after 8-9 hours. I think he had an 8-month sleep regression though and was waking up at 3 am for a week or so.
    Raves and rants?
I'm exhausted. I don't know if it is from his recent sleep regression (if that's what it was), or the fact that we hosted Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, or the lactation, or all of it. But I'm tired.
Anything else you want to share?
I travel a lot for work. I have a one-week work trip coming up. Since I returned to work in July 2014, I have pumped in airports, in restaurants in the airport, in airport lounges and have lugged hundreds of ounces of milk home. But I am tired. And I miss wearing whatever I want without having to worry if I can nurse/pump in it.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Hi all,

She's about 8.5 months. In fact, I need to figure out when to do her inside out pic (38 weeks in belly pic, 38 weeks out baby pic). Bfing is fine. Sore nips here and there (I hate you teething), but nbd. 2-3 hours between by day, usually at least an 8 hour stretch at night. Just a couple ounces of solids (puree) and some finger foods. Her record at night is 12 hours. Big brother keeping her awake during his vacation equals incredibly tired baby at bedtime.

My random sharing is that I'm suspect that AF may be on her way. This is pretty much exactly when she returned with DS and I had some weird cramping this weekend that waseither ovulation or my IUD doing something very bad. Pretty sure it was O pain as I've had it before. It's common for me the first few cycles after a pregnancy. Not looking forward to supply dips and sensitive nips... not to mention actual af herself. I've enjoyed this vacation from her, especially as it's my last such vacation. Am I the only one that gets a kick out of answering the LMP question with "July...2013"? ;) The docs always follow that one up with ,"You're breastfeeding, right?"

I've had a mostly easy time with it. With both kids.

Both it was tough at first (big boobs + flat nips/shield needed at first + my milk taking forever to come in = supplementing at first with both kids and some bumpy times getting latches at first). Once we got going though it was fine with just the shield, and even better once I could ditch that bad boy.

Breastfeeding is still going fine. We have 2 bottom and 3 top teeth. Just waiting for the 4th top one to break through.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night?
LO will be 8 months on the 8th. He goes 3-4 hrs during the day and sleeps 12-13 hours at night.

    Raves and rants?
We are still struggling with solids. I can usually only get him to eat a couple spoonfuls. He'll eventually learn, right?

Anything else you want to share?
I want to continue breastfeeding past 1yr, but I'm struggling with avoiding dairy and eggs due to his allergies. I miss cheese and ice cream!

@flockofmoosen‌ totally get what you're saying. I was kinda scared of breastfeeding before I had DD1 because of everything I had read on TB. I was expecting latch issues, clogged ducts, mastitis, etc. turns out breastfeeding was way easier than I anticipated. DD1 was a natural and we never had any issues. Yet at the same time it was way harder because DD1 would eat for 40-60min every 60-90min, so that was exhausting. With DD2 we had some issues the first 2-3weeks, had to pump, supplement and feed her through a SNS. But ever since then it's been smooth sailing. I am so impressed by some of the ladies on here who had so much trouble and didn't give up. You're amazing, I don't think I could have done it.

I have yet to have any problems/comments while NIP. And I've BF a total of 23months so far (holy crap I've spent almost 2 years of my life BFing, craziness!!!). The only person who's ever said anything to me was my mom!

  • How's breastfeeding going this week? Any issues?   He's had 2 bottom teeth for 6 weeks but he's just now started biting.  He has other teeth on the way I think.  It HURTS.  I can't imagine how bad it would be if he had uppers too.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night?     7 months, 1 week.  4 hours between breastfeeding during the day.  Solids 3 times a day.  I usually do oatmeal in the morning, a veggie for lunch and a meat plus a veggie or fruit in the evening.      He's sleeping 3-5 hour stretches at night.

Raves and rants?  In addition to the nibbling on the breast, he's also blowing raspberries while eating his purees, splattering him and me and everything in between.   So both types of feeding are a bit frustrating at the moment.

Anything else you want to share?
Along with his sleep training, we've reduced his number of feedings from 10-12 a day to 5-6.    I look forward to each breastfeeding session so much.   I think that weaning will end up being harder on me than him.

It's going well.  DS is such a distracted nurser, I have to feed him in his nursery and shut the door or he constantly tries to whip his head around to see and hear everyone (with my nipple in his mouth of course!).

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night?

DS is 7 ish months.  He goes 3-4 hours between feedings.  He eats about 3 oz. of purees about 4x a day.  He could probably eat more...I need to ramp up the marathon baby food making sessions - I think this is about where I gave up on homemade food with DD and just went to jars!  At night DS typically goes about 8-9 hours now.  He was doing even longer stretches, but then holiday travel happened.

    Raves and rants?

Rave - BFing is going well; LO doesn't have any teeth yet; I love the taste of mother's milk tea and that will be a very sad thing to let go of when I wean.  I also got to laugh when my dr. asked me the date of my lmp today and I had to figure out when I conceived!  Rant - DS drained one boob pretty good and I got a sad glimpse into what I remember my boobs being after DD weaned.  As if they weren't small enough before, they are pitiful looking after weaning.  I am not looking forward to that :(

  • How's breastfeeding going this week? Any issues?
I am back to work after a two week vacation so I'm back to pumping several times a day. I am always slightly nervous that I won't be able to pump enough.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? How much solids? What is the longest LO sleeps at night? DS is 8 months old. He feed about ever 3-4 hours. He is eating solids three times a day, but I think I need to up the amount he is eating. I'm still only making him purees. His longest stretch is usually about five hours. Lately he's been up a TON because of teething. :(

Raves and rants? Rant - What is with the nipple pinching? I had heard of biting but my LO has been pinching me, too! Rave - LO has no teeth yet so I haven't experienced the biting! :)
