Anyone getting the blood draw around 10-12 weeks? I searched on the threads and saw no boards involving this. It is supposed to be safer than the needle to the bump method of screening and it can determine gender too!
I'm AMA and will likely consider (and be offered) this test if the initial screening shows elevated chances of an issue. But I also have friends who have received false positives from this test, so it's not always the be all end all.

I wonder when she took the test and which one? From my current understanding, after a talk with my doctor 2 weeks ago, it's very reliable. Instead of giving you ratios it gives a definitive yes or no. Maybe I am mistaken. Personally, if it was offered to me I would go for it.
I think I recall a poster on one of the bump boards who was told that she screened positive for T18 on one of the NIPT tests. She went on to have an amnio which was normal. I believe the test looks at the ratio of cell free chromosomes in you blood so false positives are possible.

This particular person tested positive for Trisomy X (a 3rd X Chromosome), but I just skimmed an article the other day that was broaching the subject of false positives resulting from all versions of the cell-free DNA testing and pondering if it was time to start a real conversation about it (sorry all, I wish my reading comprehension was up to par these days, but it's not).
I'm still incredilbly grateful that these tests now exist as a step 1 (or 2), even if I might feel the need to have more definiteive testing done as a result.

Yeah, they're still screens. Especially if you aren't AMA (so, if you're under 35) your risk of false positives on the screens go way up (something like a 40% chance for some diseases), so you'd still have to deal with the amnio. I was reading an article about it the other day. Since you can get them so early, it can add a lot of wait and see. It sucks because their website says that everything is so black and white and it gives you the answers, but it's really just a more sophisticated screening mechanism. Not a diagnostic.
