Anyone watch "Breastmilk"?

I watched it on Netflix last night and felt overwhelmed, remembering all the crap I went through breastfeeding. I did it for 15 months, but all the worry and having to hook myself up to a pump in the office... Sigh. Just hoping someone else has watched this and can share in my pain.

I might have to go check that out. I'm definitely worried about trying to keep up supply and juggling feeding at home and pumping at work and all the things.

  • It was pretty interesting, but didn't really offer any advice. Just insight into the whole "breastfeeding is hard" thing. Lots of boobs squirting milk, though, and at the end, a woman squirted her milk into an egg mixture for her own omelet! WTF?!

  • Yeah, and it really didn't help me much except to reassure me that everything is ok if t doesn't go perfectly. I was hoping it would have more facts and advice....and yeah, the boob squirting omelette thing weirded me out a little.
  • I watched it over the weekend, but I didn't really think it offered any super useful information, other than that it's difficult. The omelette thing made me slightly uncomfortable, along with all of the talk regarding milk squirting everywhere during sex... Oh the things we have to look forward to!
  • I felt bad for that one lady with no milk being hooked up to the pump. That was me and then I powerfed my DD. That was very helpful.

  • @ilovelucyv‌ Funny you should mention it. Ricki Lake and her team made Breastmilk, too... I did start watching More on the Business of Being Born, but had to turn it off to put DD to bed.

  • I put it in my queue, but haven't watched it yet.

  • I love "the business of being born" it was eye opening. When they talked about the caesarean statistics it was crazy. DH and I watched that and the "breast milk " documentary. I was disappointed with the breast milk movie because as pp have said it just talked about how hard it was bs didn't give much insight.

  • DH and I watched it and we're very disappointed in the whole mess. I felt like it was random and directionless and didn't offer much in the way of real information. I loved BFing my DD, though we hit a few rough patches I had great support from the hospital lactation group and la Leche league. I feel for women who really want to BF and run into a few roadblocks and don't have the support and advice they would like. I also remember pumping and bawling on my breaks at work lol. I did NOT want to be back at work, and really missed my baby at those times!

However, the opera singing and breast milk squirting redeemed the entire documentary and had DH and I in stitches! I almost peed my pants! Best part of the whole show!
  • As a FTM, I thought the Breastmilk movie was interesting, especially regarding the use of formula may be pushed more instead of working with new moms who may need more time for their milk to come in. I also found it informative on the issue of babies being tongue-tied. I wasn't breastfed as an infant and didn't know I have been slightly tongue-tied until just a couple of years ago when my dentist pointed it out and asked if I wanted to correct the issue. This is an issue I may have to consider if my baby is having trouble with BFing.

I don't get why that disturbs people more than drinking cows milk. I've never been a milk drinker. Milk is for babies. Cows milk is for cow babies, so I really don't see the appeal of that. Just mix that in with some chicken menstration... Yum? Yeah, I just don't see how the human breastmilk is the weirdest thing about that meal.

Meh different things gross different people out. I breastfed my dd for 2 years but the thought of drinking breastmilk makes me vomit in my mouth.

  • I turned it off because it felt like there wasn't a point. My husband was surprised by how hard it could be, so maybe it did help some (FTM). We also watched the Business of Being Born, and while I really enjoyed it, felt it was a little scare tactic for my taste - it scared the hell out oh DH. He'd been dead set on a hospital birth, and after that movie was ready to find a midwife. We have different backgrounds when it comes to birthing - he has an idea of the mechanics, I grew up with my mom giving child birth classes in the living room and I caught my sister at her home birth. It's been interesting watching these documentaries with him ... I will give Breast milk another go.

  • Now out of curiosity I'm going to have to watch it. And... the business of being born.

  • I would hope the movie is encouraging and not intimidating. Nursing is hard enough without a movie making us feel like it is next to impossible!
