Baby's first legitimate cold. Help?

My sweet little baby bean has contracted the darn plague :,( He's had minor bugs here and there but nothing quite like a full blown, snotty cold. Any tips and tricks to beat the bug? Obviously no purpose in taking him to the pediatrician quite yet. Motrin seems to help but I'd rather not continue to keep him a medicated if I've got a better option..
What do you do to soothe your little ones?

Thanks!

  • Cool mist humidifier to help thin out the mucus.  Our dr suggested sticking the baby's head right in the stream.  Elevate the head on the bed to help him breathe.
  • Our LO is just getting over the nasty cold bug. Our ped said humidifier, saline drops for the nose, extra fluids (so more milk/formula and she even said small doses of pedialyte), and to incline the crib matress. She mentioned with any snit sucker to not over use since it can cause irritation and slight swelling, making it harder to breath. We also did baby vapor rub on the feet with socks and on the chest. That and lots of snuggles!
