What's your preference and why? I currently have a duvet/duvet cover but I'm looking into new bedding. I don't like the duvet seems to move around inside the cover all the time. Is a comforter a real P in the A to wash?
Comforter all the way. I cannot stand the fact that I end up clutching the corner of the duvet cover and the duvet is not in it. We dry clean ours, when we have a coupon or they run a special. It's usually under $20 and we just drop it off/pick it up with our other dry cleaning.
We now have a king sized quilt from Pottery Barn on our bed. We had a duvet for years but I thought it was a PITA. We can wash the quilt in our washing machine, but it is kind of thin. If we had a thicker comforter we would probably have to wash it at a laundromat. I like the quilt because it is not too hot in the summer and in the winter I just put an extra blanket under it.
I have a duvet and duvet cover. The duvet moving around in the duvet cover never bothers me but it is a pain when I get new bedding to make sure the cover will fit the duvet. I like the duvet because I love the softness of down and it's easier to wash/switch out bedding.
I have had a king sized duvet cover for 10 yrs and hate it, we have the clips & it comes unclipped & moves around anyway, and taking hte cover off & washing and putting back on is such a pain, I'm looking for a quilt & plan to use the down comforter folded at the bottom of the bed if we want it. Our house maintains temp horribly our bedroom always seems roasting hot to me when the kids' rooms are at a good temp so half the time I only have a sheet on anyway. So I vote quilt with blanket over comforter.
I had a duvet cover and hated having to readjust it. Now we have a fairly thin comforter layered over another blanket. It's king-sized, and it fits in our circa 1990's washer without a problem. I add 3 tennis balls to the dryer to fluff the quilt- it's loud, and there are still a couple flat spots, but it's much fluffier than without the tennis balls (works well with winter coats, too)
We use a quilt I bought from target about 6 years ago.i still like the print and it has held up extremely well.
I had also purchased a down duvet bc I adore how soft they are, but I'm in houston, texas and it is absolutely never cold enough to justify it, especially in spring through fall. Winter...you can fake it with lots of ac but that's about it.
Eta: the duvet we have is the one that is supposed to be for warm climates, but it doesn't help enough.
Re: NWMR: Comforter vs. Duvet Cover
So I vote quilt with blanket over comforter.
We decided to get a temporary one from Target clearance and if it gets destroyed. Oh well. Jokes on us. It is indestructible.
I went through several duvets and covers before giving up. However, I hate being hot at night so that factored into it as well.
I've been eying a PB quilt for when we move into our new house. DS has a PB quilt and it is so freaking comfortable.
