What is a better buy vibrating seat or swing ?

I am thinking of buying a vibrating seat for when baby comes home .. I like the idea that i can bring the seat into different rooms in my home and even travel with it .. I also think swings are wonderful to some babies love the swinging motion my first two children hated the swing but we are talking 11 years ago .. My question is what is the better buy an can you return a item once opened and used my guess is no. I hate to buy a swing or seat and be stuck with the item .. I also am on a budget an really want more bang for my buck so any suggestions on what to buy will be helpful

I agree with you that the vibrating seat is smaller, more portable, etc. and seems like the better option. In fact, because we lived in a condo, I went this route with DS1. I didn't want a giant swing in the middle of my living room. Of course, I then had a colicky baby who screamed in the vibrating seat. My SIL gave me her used swing (which was very large) and it became the only thing he would nap in for months. The moral of this story is that we make the best choices we can before the baby comes and then we just adapt. The baby really is the one who gets to choose. I would go ahead and get a vibrating seat from Craigslist or a consignment sale. If it just doesn't work out you can cross the swing bridge when you get there.

I put both on my registry (matching set!). Taking a cue from my sister who had one boy who loved the swing; another boy who loved to bounce.

Totally depends on the baby, as others have said. I'll even go a step further to say that babies can be REALLY picky... I had one son that loved to swing back and forth and another that liked side to side.... def features to keep in mind. I'll second the 2nd hand idea to save you money... or see if you have a friend that will let you try before you buy something!

I wanted to put both on the registry but i feel like its my number 3 baby an i shouldn't be asking for much ?? The shower is for my DH its his first baby he adopted my two daughters we tried for 7 years before God blessed us with a miracle !!! Should I can I put both on the registry?? Or do think it comes across as begging !!!

I did have a vibrating seat & travel swing on my registry with my son & he used both but the travel swing was small & also had a lock position & vibrated. Maybe you could find an all in one like that. They also have those new swings that go both directions now.

I put both on my registry as well as a Mommaroo, I figured I can pack the bouncer for when we take a trip to my SIL's or my parents. The swing incase he likes to swing and, the Mommaroo because it was cool, and wanted one for myself.

Not sure what your budget is but I have this one on my registry. It's both! the seat detaches from the swing to become a bouncy seat. They have other versions at walmart and target that are about $30-$40 cheaper too.

If I had to pick one I would say the portable swing (hated the big one we had) but I think both would be ideal if you want to spend the money.

My 1st hated the bouncy but my 2nd loved it and they both loved the swing.

I wasn't sure which to choose either. We ended up getting the portable bouncer.

My SIL gifted us a doorway bouncer like this:

Just be aware (as I'm sure you are but in case anyone is not) that you can't use this until well after baby is born, unlike a boucy seat/vibrating seat that they can basically lie down in.

Yes - and thanks! My H has a now 8yr old son who loved the doorway bouncer when he was young. H's sister gave us a new one because she remembered how much use they had gotten out of it.

You can put whatever you like on your registry - it doesn't mean someone has to buy it. I put lots of stuff on my registry that I have no expectation that someone will buy for us - but I plan to buy with the completion coupon.

I agree with PP, it totally depends on the baby. We initially got a swing for DD and she loved it, but I hated that it wasn't portable. We ended up getting the bouncer too and was so happy we had both. Some babies don't like one or the other, so it is hard to know which to get if only one is in the budget. Looking back, if I could only get one, I would have gotten the swing. It was a life saver helping her get to sleep!

My babies always preferred the swing. But all babies are different. I found that the vibrating chair always made my son spit up like crazy.

Return policies will differ store to store, and every kid will choose one over the other. I would become familiar with the return policies and go from there.

We had both with DS and rarely used either. Now that the RNP has vibrate in it that's the only thing I'm planning to have around. They're so bulky so for the amount of use I think either will get, I'll pass. If I was going to buy something though I would definitely look at that duo swing that converts into bouncer, it looks awesome.

My mind must be in the gutter because I read your title quickly and thought you wrote....what is better a vibrator or a swing? So I automatically assumed you meant a sex swing.

I opened it up thinking I was going to learn about what people do with a swing that is so amazing in the bedroom and then realized you meant a baby swing.

I never found a swing I like, and I feel like they just take up more room. DS loved his bouncy/vibrating seat. And it was easy to out it away when we weren't uing it. So I guess I'm team vibrating seat

All 4 of my babies liked to swing much better than bouncing. But they also only liked the side to side swing motion and not the front to back so maybe I just have bratty kids

I'm getting a mamaroo. I've heard it's great for newborns, as he gets older and more active I think he will prefer bouncing so I have a bouncing chair on the registry but will consider another swing I'd that doesn't work out.
