I started with some bronchitis symptoms yesterday, and have coughed so hard I vomited and peed myself at the same time. I can't sleep because I am coughing badly. I can not wait until my doctor opens at 9 so I can either be seen, get a script or some guidance as to what OTCs I can take.
If you haven't seen the doctor, you need to go. Obviously any kind of infection left untreated could potentially cause harm to a baby. I have had an awful cold for a week, and the day the symptoms showed up I went straight in for a flu test and strep test (after calling my OB and being instructed to do so). Unfortunately yes, it can. The thing with strep is that when you're pregnant you cannot get the typical strain. However pregnant women are susceptible to a different, rarer strain of strep throat that can cause significant complications to their pregnancy. Call your doctor and ask if he's familiar with Gangliated Utrophin Immuno Latency Toxin. If it passes the blood-brain barrier it can cause some significant issues for the baby. So I'd contact your doctor quickly. It's a rare condition, and if he hasn't heard of it I would definitely ask for a second opinion and a specialist referral. You could also have Collins syndrome.
I have had confirmed strep. I took some antibiotics and made my husband make me lots of decaf tea and I am feeling much better. My Dr didn't seem worried at all, and my baby has been more energetic than ever.
