Round ligament pain?

does anyone else get this? I'm 17 weeks and sometimes it feels like I'm being sawed in half at the waist. I feel it mostly in the center of my abdomen not the sides. It hurts to cough or laugh and sometimes wakes me up at night. Is this round ligament pain or should I be worried I am a FTM.

Re: Round ligament pain?

  • I don't remember it from my first pregnancy until later. But I'm getting them a lot this time.

  • I've had it from about 6 weeks...but it's always lower (in my pelvic bone area) and on one side or the other (usually the right side for some reason).

You could be having rlp or it could just be your body's reaction to your organs moving around. If it is truly painful call your doctor. My rlp feels dull like a cramp you'd get while running. I wouldn't call it really painful. Just uncomfortable.
  • I am a FTM and experience the exact pains that OP describes, though mine don't wake me up at night. They are very sharp, not like cramps. When I cough, sneeze, or move at the waist, it helps me to put my hand on the pain, which seems to soften it. If it's really that strong for you though, probably worth mentioning to your doc. Good luck!
  • Make sure you're drinking enough/lots of water. I got the nastiest cramps with my first pregnancy when I was at a cabin and not drinking enough.

For me RLPs have always been near my pelvis or at my sides of my belly, never right in the middle. They are also sudden sharp pains that usually happen the worst when I'm moving.

I would probably ask my doctor about it, even if you wait until your next appointment.
