Girls trip ideas??

Hi ladies! My mom and I are looking to do a short (3-4 day) girls trip (just the 2 of us) sometime before the baby comes. I'm guessing that mid-March would be the latest I'd really want to travel since I am due May 16th. That all being said, any suggestions of places to go? We went to New Orleans last year and LOVED it! We walked a ton and ate our way through the city, not to mention enjoyed some of Jazz Fest! We live on the east coast (northeast) and are willing to take a flight somewhere.

Thoughts or ideas?

Re: Girls trip ideas??

  • My mom & I did a girl's trip to Vegas and had a blast. So much to do (aside from the gambling and clubbing). We saw a couple shows too.

  • I've never been but I hear Charleston is awesome. It's on my list!
  • Have you ever been to Denver? I just went there for a conference and I loved that everything was within walking distance and then if you wanted to check out the mountains it'd be a short 45 min drive. So gorgeous.

  • I live just outside of New Orleans and I love it here but my second favorite place is Savannah. To me it reminds me of New Orleans just cleaner. We have a family home we stay in over looking the squares. I've gone during Mardi Gras which is always before the Parade of homes which I hear is awesome. It's sometime in the spring, so you could tour homes not to mention lots of shopping and some really cute baby shops.

I've also been to Charleston and I didn't like it. To me the people weren't as friendly, I'm spoiled being from the New Orleans area.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Charleston is great, as PP has mentioned. DH and I went to Savannah for our 1 year anniversary in September. We loved it, but it was hot. Jan-Mar should be a good time weather-wise. We stayed at a bed & breakfast called "the Zeigler House Inn". It was awesome! The hostess there bakes in the morning, so when you return to your room you have 3 different kinds of homemade pastries/muffins to choose from. Plus, a mini fridge stocked everyday with bottled water, juices, English muffins, etc. all of which is included in the price of the room. Great value!
  • Las Vegas, nashville, New York, Lake Tahoe, seattle, portland, Santa Cruz, tiajuana, San Fransisco
  • Sedona, AZ is awesome! DH would probably say Austin, TX, he says the food is crazy good.

Austin is a fun weekend trip with lots of shops and yummy restaurants *but* I don't think it's as beautiful as some other places mentioned. The scenery in Texas isn't really all that ;)

  • What about Charklston or Charlotte?  Or Nashville? Those probably would be pretty short flights.

True, but if I was travelling at 32 weeks pregnant I would go for the food ;)

YES! Gotta love the Texas food!!!

  • Skip Nashville right now. This is our cold and rainy month. It's dreadful here honestly right now.

I'd book a trip to Miami. No joke. Sunny, gorgeous, and they don't even know what winter is down there lol

Or Boulder CO is nice this time of year if you don't mind the cold, I love CO

There is also Fort Lauderdale, Seaside, all in FL.... Those are nice for short trips.

Or Las Vegas! But that of course may require more money than y'all planned on spending if you end up in the casinos lol.
  • I'm in love with Greenville SC!! Also look up Cape May .. It's across the bay from Ocean City MD so you could probably even drive there. It's super Victorian style, charming, and a perfect place for girl time.

  • Florida cities are out since we have family there and travel there for those visits. Nashville, Charleston, and possibly Atlanta are front runners! I'm interested in Austin too! Thanks ladies for all these good ideas!

  • Well if y'all do decide to come to Nashville I can tell you some good local spots for food/drink/music whatever y'all are looking to do.

Local eats that can't be missed:
    Loveless Cafe
    Bluebird Cafe
    The Palm (fancy)
Virago (Asian fusion, sushi but they have other options- very good)
Pharmacy Burger (East Nashville fare, very popular right now)
Holland House (semi fancy dinner spot)
    Husk (fancy)
    The Southern (amazing brunch!!!)
    The Tavern
    Hattie B's Hot chicken
    Edley's BBQ
The Copper Kettle (brunch till 3 pm Sundays)
Las Hacienda Authentic Taqueria (one on Nolensville)

    Desserts:
    Jeni's homemade ice creams
    The Puffy Muffin Bakery
Fox's Donut Den (a local legend around here)
A milkshake from Elliston place Soda Shoppe on Church st.

    Places to see for music:

Really any place on Broadway past 8th ave but watch out! Most of our bars are still smoking and are packed ass to elbow. Especially crowded and crazy but worth seeing a least:
    Tootsie's orchid Lounge
    Second Fiddle
Mercy Lounge/Cannery Ballroom (Nashville's most popular non indoor smoking local non country venue, and where I got married, DH used to book shows for them constantly and it's one of my all time favorite spots here)
    Bluebird Cafe

I would skip Opry Mills mall. It's a sucky overpriced tourist trap and nothing worth seeing other than an H&M. Opryland Hotel is beautiful and lovely, but STAY away from the food there! If you must, get their pizza and maybe a Haagen Daas milkshake but the other places to eat are nasty.

Downtown Franklin is another good daytime option. Lots of historic civil
War era buildings, specialty shops, and cute little places to eat.

    Good luck wherever you decide!
  • Mall of America in MN?
  • If you're looking for warm weather, the Bahamas isn't too far from the northeast. Just past FL. DH & I are big island people (Aruba is our fav!)
  • I went to Nashville for a friends 40th. It's a lot if bar hopping but it's more about the music than drinking. It was so much fun. Lots if walking though.
