Woven wraps

I really wanted to get a second Moby for when the first one is getting washed, but forget that they're apparently almost fifty dollars and instead have decided I'd rather get a light cotton woven to get more longevity for the price. What brand can we recommend? I've been looking at a Girasol, which I know has been mentioned before on here.

Re: Woven wraps

  • I tried a Didymos that was super soft. The Tehkni reprieve I tried was super grippy and a little stiff. But I found a grippy wrap easier to get a higher carry.

  • Giras are great. Kokadis are nice and have some great patterns. I have a little frog that I really like (although it's a tad thick).

  • I made one. The Osnaburg fabric is less than $3 a yard. A few long straight hems, and you can have a size 6 for around $20.

They dye well if you need it to be pretty. (The osnaburg only comes in "natural")

  • Girasol and didymos are both great. Little frog is also good and cheaper but not AS supportive (but really fine)

  • I love kokadis patterns and I seem to see them discounted more than other wraps.

  • I'm a big fan of Girasol's. I love the rainbows and different colors, I love that they are cotton and don't need breaking in really, and they are really easy to care for. I'd still have one if they worked better for larger babies, but I'm not going to fork out the money for their double twill weave right now.

  • Oh! Other great brands are Natibaby (hemp is pollowy, but thick, linen blends are great and thinner than they used to be), KoKaDi (their cottons are really thin, but I love their hemp so soft and thin for hemp), and Tehkni (I am so in looooooooooove with their repreve wraps).

    Oh! and Tula wraps!

I have a nati hemp and don't really care for it. I think I'm sold on the dark agua azul Girasol. So pretty. Plus I could potentially do this with it once R is bigger:

  • Ughhhh now I'm second guessing myself. I really don't like my nati baby because it's so thick. I love wrapping with my Moby though. I don't want to buy a girasol if I just don't actually like wovens. Thoughts? I would normally just buy it and sell it if I don't like it, but I can see J getting really annoyed with that.

  • I bought a non stretchy wrap from Lil Peepers Keepers. Also, did you know you can apparently nurse in a back carry. Google double hammock rebozo nursing.... Crazy. Sorry I can't get clicky to work.
  • Woah I just looked up the nursing in a back carry and it's really cool. Here's the link.

  • You might consider a Kokadi... Like Nana said, their cottons are quite thin. I know what you mean about thicker wraps being harder to wrap with. My little frog took a lot of getting used to. That being said, I have a 100% linen wrap that is super light and airy, but it's not quite as easy to wrap with. I was actually reading a blog post yesterday about the reasons to buy super high-end wraps. Her big thing was the difference in wrap-ability. Many of the more expensive wraps (Artipoppe is the one that comes to mind for me) have a diagonal stretch that makes for easier wrapping. I have a feeling Nana could tell you more...
Oh! What about Oschas? They're on my dream list :)

  • I'm not going to make my own. I need a second wrap ASAP because none of my other carriers fit her yet and she spits up a ridiculous amount just like her sister.

  • I don't know anything about woven wraps, but have you checked out consignment shops for another moby? I got two from a shop for a little over half the price of a new one.

  • I think if you like the Moby, then a woven wrap would be good. You can still do the Moby carry, but it'll sag less as the material doesn't stretch. However, if you like a little stretch then a Girasol in a diamond weave would be my recommendation, or a KoKaDi cotton. These ones are literally wash and wear wraps, they require like no breaking in, and are thin and have a little stretch to them, but will still have more support like a woven should.
