Hemroids

Help. They started with my pregnancy with DD. Now they have come back with a vengeance. They are so bad I can't go without it being extremely painful. I'm going to get some over the counter cream. Does anyone have any recomendations? Even the colace doesn't keep it from happening. It's like every time I go it gets all irritated and doesn't calm down before the next time.

Re: Hemroids

  • I had an external thrombosed hemmerhoid with my first pregnancy. It hurt so bad I would cry walking up and down stairs. I tried everything to manage the pain but only time helped. I ended up buying an ice pack that is specifically intended for your anus and as shameful as it was, it was glorious. I also got prescription ointment for it to help numb the pain.

See your GP or OB and get some support from them. You may need to make some dietary changes or add in a different stool softener. You should never have to 'push' your poop out. Hemmerhoids can leave skin tags which lead to easy relapse. A doctor can treat these.

I used witch hazel everytime I went to the bathroom and preparation H wipes too.

My hemorrhoids never went away after DS was born, but I am not sure they generally do that. At some point, I'll look into having them surgically removed.

I have a feeling we're going to have this conversation a LOT over the next six months. Hemorrhoids absolutely TERRIFY me. I've had them once and I'm praying to avoid them if possible with this pregnancy!

Ok, my home remedy: Crush (or cut up very small) a clove of garlic. Mix with apple cider vinegar (or olive oil if you want it to be more gentle). Apply to a cotton ball and put on hemorrhoids for 5-10 minutes. When I did this it felt like it was burning a bit (but not terrible) and it shrunk the size considerably. I've also read that you can skin and puncture a whole clove of garlic and insert it inside yourself overnight. I've never tried that.

You can google garlic use for hemorrhoids and read TONS of testimonies that it works. That's where I got the idea. And there are tons of ways to do it!

ETA: Those over the counter creams do NOTHING in my opinion.

  • I get them pretty regularly but not super severe... Using witch hazel throughout the day (making a compress with it) helps a LOT for me.
  • I third witch hazel, which by the way, I also used to help it all feel better down there after a vaginal birth.

However, I've been lucky so far and only got hemmeroids for a small amount of time after giving birth, I'm sure I'll notice them again sometime though.
  • Omg are they something that all pregnant women get? That seems so unfair. I've never had them before and reading this terrifies me
  • I've got them too, although I had one prior due to my IBS issues. My doctor has a new procedure called banding that removes them without surgery. I'm definitely going to be getting it done after pregnancy. Mine aren't painful but I did get an ointment from my dr when they were that really helped!

I had them all through my pregnancy with DS. This time I had a minor flare up around week 10, but have managed to get and keep them under control for the last few weeks. I make sure to drink lots of water, eat lots of fiber and wait until I really have to go, to go. No pushing.

I also find a cup of coffee and yogurt in the morning does wonders, it keeps things moving!

  • Yup they are the spawn of satan. Never had them till I had my son 4 1/2 years ago. I have had them off and on since then but so much worse and more painful since i got in my 2nd trimester this pregnancy. Over the counter ointment helps a little but if there is a procedure that isn't too much more painful i am going to do it after this pregnancy. My neighbor had it done and said it was the best decision she ever made her only regret was waiting till she was in her 50's to do it.

  • After DD I used the Tucks pads (witch hazel)...I just leave it in there until the next trip to the bathroom.  Really helps!
