Workout/nutrition thread, week of 1/4

hey everyone, figure it's time to get these started again?

The holidays are officially over as of last night in the BPT house. I shopped yesterday for a weeks worth of healthy meals. Started the day today with 32 oz of water, a spinach/egg white/feta scramble and a slice of Ezekiel bread with coconut oil spread. Entered it into myfitnesspal. I have been feeling very sluggish the past week or so and I know it is related to my poor vacation diet. Plan on working out M, T, W, and R mornings.

What is everyone else planning for this week?

Re: Workout/nutrition thread, week of 1/4

  • I took last week off of working out since I had a cold. I normally run 6 days a week and will aim for that this week, minimum of 2miles per run with hopefully a 4 mile run Saturday.

I need to incorporate more ab and leg work, but I'm kind of limited to body weight exercises since I don't go to a gym.

I'll be doing low carb dinners a few nights this week since that always seems to keep the weight off for me.

  • Oh goodness I'm so glad you all do one of these, thanks! My sis is still in town this week so it's not going to be easy as far as healthy eating, but I totally intend to exercise while she is here to watch the baby while I get to the gym. I also got a Polar FT4 heart monitor for Christmas that I'm dying to try. So much baby weight to lose. Ew.

@lindslalala have you ever tried PiYo? It's an at home DVD from Beachbody that's a mix of Pilates and Yoga. It's GREAT for abs and legs.

  • I'm using DS as my weights. I out him on my knees and extend out and bring it back in. It's great for abs and he loves it.
I also try and bench press him.

As far as food goes hubby is the primary cook and is really working hard to change his shape so we get lots of healthy home cooked meals.
  • I'm also trying to sleep more so I do to rely on sugar and caffeine to get through the day.
  • Privacy, what does your detox look like? No sugar at all? I'm interested in joining you on that one.

I don't know if I'm strong enough to stick to it, but am also interested to learn more.
What about natural sugars in apples and carrots?
  • I have to take it easy since getting out of the hospital for my back but I plan on swimming 3x this week. I hope that will be easier on my back.

  • The 90 day challenge starts over again tomorrow. I'm going to try to start then but I'm not sure how well ill do. I was sofaking sick. I lost like 5-7 pounds over vacation... Not normal.

Anyway, PSA the bikini body mommy challenge starts tomorrow. 6 20 minute workouts a week. It is surprisingly effective.
  • I've been trying to maintain about 15 miles/week since the half right before thanksgiving. It's been going well. It's been so much easier for me to run (and farther distances) these past two weeks bc I haven't been at work.

I should just get up and go to the gym to run before work. But I'm so not a morning person. Ugh.

As far as eating, I'm just glad it's getting back to "normal". My ILs were just here and it's an extravaganza of food all the time. Sausage and peppers! Chicken parm! Meatballs! Pancakes and bacon! I'm over it.

  • I seriously think I feel better already. I have been eating nothing but sugary carbs for the past week, and have been exhausted by naptime every day. Ate right and drank a shitton of water today, and I am doing just fine energy wise.

  • I'm back to using skinnytaste and trying to do portion control. Also back to the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays after work for sure. May start going Saturdays too.

  • I finish up week 3 of T25 beta round, which is week 7 for the whole program tonight and start week 4(or 8) tomorrow. I've managed to gain back 3 of the 5-6 I've lost doing the program, despite getting every workout in. That's some impressive holiday eating.

  • I just looked up this 21 Day Challenge. I'm going to be cranky pants.

  • Oh, I use MFP too. I wish there was a breast feeding setting so it will stop judging me. Has anyone tried any other calorie tracker apps that they like better than MFP?

  • I started the 21 day sugar detox...level 1. I am still standing. Today I had a lot of milk, cheese and walnuts as a snack. For breakfast I had buffalo chicken egg muffins (recipe was in her book), for lunch I had leftover buffalo chicken. For dinner we had ham and I made creamed cauliflower (instead of mashed potatoes)

  • They are. I wouldn't cook them for the full 40 minutes though. I would probably take them at 30/35 minutes as long as they are done.

Mine were overcooked. I had the leftover chicken for lunch today--that was yummy.

  • This just happened....back to reality tomorrow

  • I ran a couple miles yesterday and meal planned using my Skinnytaste cookbook for the week. Her gumbo recipe is really good btw - made it last night! I plan on either doing the treadmill or a workout DVD tonight. Tomorrow I plan to go to zumba.
I have been cooking out of this a lot too!  Last night made the Cubano style stuffed pork tenderloin, it was awesome.  The shrimp and grits were very tasty too.

  • I didn't bring my stuff today but I also can't stand up without pulling a Lucille Austero so... Maybe tomorrow?

I was pretty good about going to the gym over break.  I didn't do too horrible on the food, but not great either.  I got up and went to class at my gym this morning and I'm thinking about going back to do another class tonight.  I can't figure out if that's ridiculous or not. I usually go M, W, F, Sa mornings.

  • I'll join in!  Y'all don't know me (yet) but @DCtoLondon can vouch that I'm not crazy.  I'm on Day 4 of going grain-free and using MFP.  So far so good.  Egg cup with broccoli and bacon and a greek yogurt for breakfast this morning, and a salad topped with kalua pork for lunch.  And I'm working on upping my water and calcium intake to hopefully combat some kidney stone issues I developed over the past year.

  • Well today was a success. Luckily I am on level 1, because I have been eating dairy as a snack. (cheese yum!)

For breakfast I had eggs cooked with peppers and onions, and coffee with cream. (blech. but I can't deal with a caffeine and no sugar headache either)

Lunch: I had leftover ham and mashed cauliflower.

    Snack: olives, cheese and walnuts

Not sure about dinner yet though.

  • Just ate the naked Persian turkey burgers out of the skinnytaste book. Very good and quick dinner. Could easily leave out the breadcrumbs to do gluten free and the feta to do paleo.

  • We have seriously SO much ham leftover. We cooked a 7 lb one yesterday.

So for dinner I had a slice of ham, and eggs with diced peppers and onions. I am completely full right now.

Despite drinking more water than I normally do, I still feel like I am retaining water. I just haven't gone to the bathroom enough. I will up water again tomorrow.

  • I did a cardio HIIT/ab workout from fitness blender this morning.  DS woke up about 10 minutes into it, so I threw him on the couch in his sleep sack to watch cartoons so he couldn't get down and harass me.

    image image
  • I'm trying to do C25K, but it's too cold outside to run....but maybe I'll shovel for a bit to try to get in some exercise.

I was trying to not join a gym and mostly right at the beginning of the year...but I might have to.  ARGH.
  • Workout done!  Left the house in 10 degree weather at 5:15 AM to do it.  DS woke up at 4:00 again.  Never really went back to sleep.  What is wrong with him????  This behavior is really cutting into my morning workout/me time.

  • Both my boys were home sick with fevers yesterday and it was so.freaking.hard to stick to my meal plan, both because we have a bunch of crap in the house and I was off my normal schedule.  But I stuck with it, didn't cheat and hit my calorie goal for the day.  Today is easier because I'm back at work.

  • Workout is done for the day, and halfway through I got the call that there is no school today (meaning no work for me!) because of the wind chill! Hooray! It's the perfect day for it, I had nothing important going on at work, and can just stay home and chill with DS. And he actually slept all night and is still sleeping!

  • Bumping this up from page 2.

Got my workout in this morning, and got to call that I have another snow day! Worked out 5 days this week, my goal was 4.

I really need to hit the grocery store. Was not prepared to be snowed in at all. I am proud of myself though....last night DH ordered pizza and I settled for a greek salad instead.

  • Ugh. Yeah, I need to shovel at some point today
    image image
  • @spooko, I have literally been forcing myself to chug water this week. My goal is to fill my 32 oz bottle 3 times per day. Wherever I remember I just chug.

    I pee a lot.
