Mamas who have been sick or SO been sick...

DH has the flu, which is disappointing bc he got the flu shot. He has the whole nines. Fever chills throwing up. My paranoia is real high right now. He hasnt touched L since Wed evening. We are sleeping in separate rooms. I have scrubbed down both bathrooms. Washed all of L's blankets stripped my bed and I basically clorox anything he touches. So questions are:
1. How did u deal?
2. Did ur LO get sick?
3. Any other tips besides leaving the house for a few days?

Thanks!

Re: Mamas who have been sick or SO been sick...

  • SO and I have both been sick - different colds on different occasions.

    1. How did u deal? I just kept telling myself that if it (LO getting sick) happens, it happens and we'll deal with it when it does. In the meantime, I worried about what I could do to help prevent it: SO slept in another room while he was sick, we washed our hands religiously, and I reminded myself that the best thing that I could do for LO is to bf in order to share any antibodies that I have.
    2. Did ur LO get sick? No. Luckily he did not either time. Knock on wood we continue to have good luck until he gets at least a little older/bigger. With a 2 yo brother returning to daycare at the end of the month, it's only a matter of time.
    3. Any other tips besides leaving the house for a few days? It sounds like you're doing everything that you can. Watch LO closely and remember that breastfeeding is the best thing for him/her. If you're ff, talk to your pediatrician about anything you might can do if he gets sick to help him stay hydrated.

  • My toddler and I had influenza A a week ago. Graham stayed upstairs on his own floor for like 4 days. I stayed on our main floor with my toddler for almost a week. We were on tamiflu. My daughter and I didn't touch the baby for almost 3 days. They told me if I breastfed to wwear a mask but I EP anyways. My husbaND watched him or if he was at work my sister was here. It ducked but he didn't get influenza. There was also a ton of handwashing and sanitizing. If he did hold our toddler he changed his shirt after and everything.if it was just a cold or something I wouldn't be as obsessed bUT I was not going to let him get influenza. We also all got our flu shots this year
  •  I got sick over Christmas. Nasty cough and fever. This, despite having everyone in my household wash hands always and wiping down surfaces. But the baby didn't get sick at all. I BF so I guess she got antibodies.
  • MH got influenza A despite getting the flu shot. He literally quarantined himself in our bedroom for five days and LO and I whereon our own.

It was tough, but neither LO or I got sick.

    Hang in there!

  • I don't remember where you live but one thing we did after sick in-laws came over was air the place out. We bundled up LO as though we were going outside, turned off the heat, and then opened all the windows for an hour. Then we closed them and cranked the heat up to get the place warm again. It might not work as well since your SO is still sick, but it might be worth doing once he starts to get better (i.e., stops spreading his germs through sneezing).

Also, make sure to change the hand towels in your bathroom and kitchen a lot.

  • I tested positive yesterday for the H2N2 flu. I was told to limit my contact with G, wear a mask and gloves when I BF and pray that she doesn't get sick. I take her temp often, and so far she has stayed 96.7. I got on tamiflu early (within 3 hours of symptom) and I already feel much better and my fever broke at around 4am. I tried to quarantine myself away and sleep in another room but she cried for 2+ hours at bedtime last night because DH tried to put her down. I finally gave in and went to hold her and rock her to sleep.
