Pumping Question for back to work/school

Will you/do you pump both sides each time or just the side LO would be nursing from? My LO typically nurses 15 min on one side at each feeding but I started thinking I should pump both sides while away from him each time. TIA for your help!

Re: Pumping Question for back to work/school

  • You will get more milk by pumping both. So if you are hoping to pump enough to not have to supplement, I would definitely pump both.

  • @runningmama14‌ Thanks for your response. That was exactly what I was thinking...I'd rather have some extra than not enough (if I am lucky lol) and I would like him to stay EBF if possible. Thanks again!

  • I asked this in the BF thread a few days ago because I was curious too. Obviously I have no idea how my supply will be affected when I go back to work, but I was afraid of producing an oversupply by pumping both sides. I guess it's better to have more than I need rather than less though.

  • Thanks for all the responses. I am going to pump both, I have a feeling he'll be eating a lot there.

  • Also remember that you can freeze the extra too so you have a good back up supply
