What's wrong with my kid? PIP

I know you are all secretly MDs.  Diagnose my kid:

It's not bumpy.  It's not a scratch.  It doesn't hurt her.  If you press on it, it fades for a second.

This is the third time its been on there.  Always in the exact same spot.  Normally it just says for a few days and goes away.  This time its been there for a week.

It's never bigger or smaller. It always looks the same.  She doesn't have anything anywhere else.   It started before she was getting solids, so I don't think its an allergy.

  • Might sound ridiculous, but are her socks too tight?
  • Loading the player...
  • could it be from socks? What type of detergent are you using?
  • I thought the same thing about the socks.  But this has been there for a week and I've purposely had her sockless (or wearing very loose ones when out).  I don't think thats it.

I'm using the same detergent I've been using since she was born. I forget what its called.

Wouldn't excema(?) be textured?  This feels like the rest of her skin.

  • DD gets this in her "folds".  It looks like maybe that's a natural crease in her skin? If it's the same as DD's, the Dr. just said to try and keep it try as much as possible.

I was thinking the same thing... especially since it looks kind of shiny in the second pic. Try putting some diaper cream on it and make sure to keep it as dry as possible. If that helps, then problem solved ;) DD used to get that in the folds of her neck when she was a couple months old.

  • It's probably not what yours is, but I had a strawberry mangioma (sp?) birthmark that was red all over my palm that disappeared when i pushed on it. Again, almost surely that's not what it is if it goes away and comes back :P

hmm.  ok.  i'll try it.  it just doesn't make any sense to me.  why wouldn't it be on her other ankle too?

My DD has eczema. This doesn't look like it at all. It would be in more areas of her body if it was.

DD has gotten it on the back of one knee before.. it may just be that her skin folds a little more on that foot then the other, or who knows.. if it even is that! But it can't hurt to try :) GL!

  • my dr. mom says you should just put a 1% hydrocordozone creme on it.
  • DD had something like this on her neck.  The pedi told me to put an anti-fungal cream on it and it went away within a day. If it came back...i'd put more on...and again...it went away.  It can't hurt to try it.  The cream doesn't have to be for babies either.
  • Has she been out with my Ethan?  I think that is an ankle hickey :)
  • It could be ring worm. My friends kid had it on his leg and it doesn't always show in a ring. It usually itches but you wouldn't know that it was itching. It would need to be treated with an anti fungal cream.

  • i'm gonna say latex allergy caused by socks.

i have a slight allergy to latex. If i wear a hair band on my wrist i will get a similar mark. Its sort of like a burn but its not raised. It is slightly itchy though and a mark will last for a few days at a time.?

  • It could be a yeast infection.  Some babies can get it in the folds of their skin if they stay damp.  It's not a big deal though and you can put some anti-fungal cream on it and it clears right up.

  • Looks like an allergic reaction to the elastic in socks.  I had a rubber allergy as a kid and looks familiar.
