Tummy Pain

So I know that the majority of us are just down right uncomfortable and struggling to just get through the day or night. But I have a question about sharp burning pain/sensation in my abdomen. It's in the same spot every single day. And the best way to explain it is, it's like the muscle is teating from my stomach wall. I didn't experience this with my first pregnancy. But I'm bigger & my son is bigger than I was with my daughter.
Is this causing permanent damage? Like my moms muscle detached from her abdominal wall while she was pregnant with my sister and the doctor told her only surgey would correct this. Anyone else going through this?

Re: Tummy Pain

  • I got the tearing, burning sensations but I have no idea what it is but I don't think the damage is permanent. My guess (with no evidence or education on the topic) is that this feeling is being caused by micro tears in the muscles that are stretching to compensate for the increased stomach size. If so, they should heal on their own while everything else is healing and shouldn't impact future work outs and such.

I'm just a SAHM, though. This would be a good topic to being up worth your dr at the next appointment.

  • I'm def bringing it up on Tuesday. Although this pregnancy is so much better than my last, there are a couple things that left me going what the hell is that. Like round ligament/pelvic floor pain. Had no idea. I do have a belly brace that has helped with the pressure in my pelvis. It's the only thing that really made a difference because truthfully Tylenol is a joke & does nothing to aid or dull the pain!
    Thank you for responding
  • I get sharp/burning like pains too sometimes but they are more like shooting pains. I asked my doc about it and he said it's normal.

  • Yes, I've been dealing with this for weeks (thanks to my extremely short torso).

According to my provider: my abdominal muscles are separating or splitting.

According to me: I'm being violently and painfully ripped apart from the inside by my baby.
  • Well if you get a complete separation of the abdominal strap muscles, you'll need a surgeon at some point so you don't have a ventral hernia. If you need that see a surgeon that also can give you a tummy tuck and a breast lift while they are there once you're done with your family. You're welcome :)

Not a whole lot you can do during the pregnancy but once you're delivered the pain will stop. Some moms with this do well with an abdominal binder post-partum. Ask your doc.

  • Idk if this is the same but i notice when I go out to a store i feel a pulling sensation in my stomach. I dont think they are BH but really had no idea. Dr said its normal and to drink more water. I make sure to drink 100 oz a day and it has helped.
  • @amack22‌
That does sound unpleasant but also doesn't sound like the abdominal separation as I'm experiencing it (at least that isn't how it feels to me). I hope you feel better soon!

    @chicagojackie‌
My health care practitioner who identified it said that if it became a hernia then it would require surgery but as it stands it is not a hernia just a separation and it may repair itself. They didn't say anything about a full or partial separation so I'm assuming mine is partial (you can see it at certain times but it is only at the top, I think). Meanwhile, I'm so freaking vain that your post about surgery with a tummy tuck has me *almost* wanting it to get worse. I'm a bad wanna be malingering patient now. Lol

My friend had complete abdominal separation (four kids in 3 years and 7 months), and she had the surgery. Her stomach is now more flat that it was when we were thirteen.

Ditto--I also had a girlfriend who had the surgery. She looks incredible. 4 kids and you'd never know it.
  • @chicagojackie‌ when does a separation become bad enough that the doctors will say the surgery is medically necessary? I had a significant separation with my 2nd pregnancy that never healed itself. Now this pregnancy has made it much worse. Like, there is a good 6 inches of separation and my doctor says it will not repair itself. I had heard of the surgery before but I know insurance will only cover it if it is deemed medical necessary.
