only eats while walking around

Dd doesn't ever eat but when she does she won't sit anywhere to eat. She pretty much only will eat on the move. And now I don't know what to do about it? Her diet is very limited and most days she refuses to eat despite the fact that she practically begs us for food. We don't withhold food it from her but when it's given to her she won't eat it and if she does decide to eat she refuses to sit at the table or the counter. I do not want this to continue but at the same time I want her to eat. We have made a lot of mistakes that have sabatoged her experiences with food and so this is one more thing I don't want to turn into another bad experience. Unfortunately she doesn't qualify for ei services (been to the homw twice) and the new pedi also refuses to give us a referral for therapy.

Re: only eats while walking around

  • What did the EI evaluator say? It was my understanding when DD went through it that if she did not qualify for services they would give us some references to help us.

What has your pedi said her about eating habits? And what was his reasoning for refusing to refer for feeding therapy?

I have a hard time giving advice because your situation sounds so much more extreme than others. Have you considered a small kids size table next to your big one for her to eat at? We have one for the kids and they mainly eat snacks there but some meals. They usually get up and sit back down while they are there but keep the food on the table.

I think I would be more lenient right now because her association with food is so negative I wouldn't do anything to increase that. I would encourage her to eat sitting down but not require it. Good luck.
