This is obviously related to the childcare thread, but my question is, what are work from home jobs some of you ladies have experience with? Or are currently working? We are moving to a new area and I am wondering what (if anything) to look for.
I currently work in sales and can do that mostly from home other then when I am on the road. My boss is incredibly flexible -- currently I work part time in the office (20 hours a week). That will cut to 10 when baby comes after the first 12 weeks.
I sell Premier Designs Jewelry. It isn't completely work from home, because I go do shows at peoples houses. I just make my own schedule, so I choose to only schedule shows when my husband is home to take care of the baby.
This would work for tupperware, scentsy, Avon, Mary Kay... really anything you sell and make a commission off of.
@snedge I can delete my post if needed. I was trying to throw out as many ideas as possible for her, not promote what I sell.
@pnutg I also have a friend that decided she liked making soap. She began selling her homemade soap at craft fairs and to friends and family. So maybe if you are crafty you could sell stuff that you make personally. It would be something you enjoy doing, and would bring in extra income. I am not crafty which is why I chose to sell something I didn't have to make.
I was a management consultant before the kids and now I freelance for my old employer or former colleagues or clients. I took a year off after each kid and work around 10-15 hours a week. It pays well and I enjoy the work, but the project has to be pretty flexible, no travel, and my clients can't be too demanding - a hard mix to find. But a number have projects have come my way and it's worked pretty well.

I work from home for a company called Teletech. They handle customer service accounts for different companies. Its legit, no scams. Temporary jobs but have opportunities for permanent positions. You can apply online just Google the name.
I have done writing/editing and currently work for The Princeton Review teaching mostly online. If anyone is interested in knowing more about either, PM!
I had to stop working as a nurse per dr orders and now that she gave me the go ahead, I'm worried no one will hire me knowing I'll take maternity leave soon. Fortunately I became an independent consultant for a company that allows me to work from home (just like those parties pp mentioned) except I mostly do events and social media marketing, and while I could make cash from parties, I haven't done any yet. I make commissions from orders and customers schedule appts with me, but it's all on my own schedule.
I have a regular 9-5 office job that I do from home. I was able to land it due to having hard to find licenses/qualifications and my company being based in a small town with a tapped out labor pool.
I'm a wedding planner and most of the ladies in my industry also work from home, including photographers, invitation designers, etc. and many are moms. Not the easiest industry to break into, and you have to factor in working long nights and weekends during wedding season, but it is super awesome to be able to make my own schedule.
Hey @pnutg! I am lurking and I wanted to tell you about Amazon's job marketplace called Mechanical Turk. Not sure if it's something you would be interested in, but something for you to check out.

There was an article on MSN today (link below) about different job ideas that you can work from home doing. From the quick skim I did, it looked like there were some good ideas, not sure that any of them would be full-time pay, but they could be some good supplemental income.
ooh, one more: Idealist.org, the nonprofit job bank, allows you to look at remote opportunities, where one would be working for a nonprofit from home. Do a search there--there's some good stuff, especially for anyone with nonprofit background.
I work for a MLM and have for a year now but I also got a part time job (19 hours a week) through synchrony financial (ge capital) that is also work from home. It's all inbound calls and basically I just help merchants complete credit applications that error out or have further identity theft security that needs to be done it's super easy and I really love it
I spun off my old day job in commercial banking to consulting from home helping companies find and secure bank financing (leveraging existing relationships with lawyers, accountants and business owners) and also rent out an apartment on airbnb which has been very lucrative. Both are hands off and I work when I want and can hire cleaning help and number crunchers by the hour for maximum efficiency. I'd recommend leveraging your particular skill set and background to make the best use of your network and time rather than going generic with a Mary Kay type opportunity. Ask yourself "what am I bloody good at?" and do that thing. The money will follow.
My husband works from home three days a week while watching our kids ages 6, 4, and 2. He works as a real estate agent, which gives him flexibility to schedule his appt when I am home. He does a lot of phone calls in the evenings or sometimes with the kids running around. He has even taken the kids to show a house. We do have an in home sitter fro two days a week to give him the freedom to do showings on those days.
Im a freelance stylist and only take jobs when I can and do a lot of the prep work at home. I also style online for a commission based company called Keaton Row.
I started working as an assistant for a Realtor from home after having my second child. It was mainly paperwork, scheduling appointments, etc. after about a year I got my real estate license and now will take on only one client at a time so in not too busy. Taking child care costs for 2 kids, I'm actually bringing home more now than I did as a teacher and I work a lot less.
