breastfeeding help.

Ok so I have a 10 day old little girl and she is eating like crazy. We've been going to the doc every few days cuz she's really jaundiced and he weighed her Wed and then Fri and she had only gained one ounce. He told me to suppliment with one oz of formula every three hours. I feed her every two. Do I listen to the doc or just feed her on the breast and see what happens. It seemed too easy for him to put her on formula. How do I know if I'm making enough? My boobs are never hard or anything. I use a shield so I know something is coming out

Re: breastfeeding help.

  • Eating will help with jaundice. Jaundice is caused by the liver not functioning properly. The more she eats, the more she'll pee and poop. Doing that will increase her liver function. I was told this by a nurse who worked in nicu. My little one was jaundiced and needed a bili-blanket.

  • That's good. Her levels went down and I feed her every two hours most of the time. He said I could drop the supplementation but she doesn't poop every day id's that normal? The formula made her poop and now that I stopped so did she. She pees a lot
  • I feed my now 3 wks old baby both formula and breast milk. Mainly formula cuz I'm not producing enough milk, (working on building it up) she was jaundice as well. Her doc said the same the more they p and poop the more she'll clear up. And putting her under natural light like by the window or even close to the room light in a onsie will help clear her up. Just have to keep feeding her, if your worried about how much she's eat in pump out ur milk and record it. That way u know how much ur feeding her and how much milk ur producing from each breast. At 0-3 wks they eat 1-3 oz every two to three hours 8-12x daily that's up to 8-12 oz a day.
  • Download the app baby daybook it helps me a lot
