PSA: Clearance Sales - Time to Stock Up!

Gymboree, Old Navy, Crazy 8, Gap, Mini Boden, etc all have huge clearance sales right now. It's a good time to stock up on 6-12 month clothing for next year. New stuff at consignment prices! Just bought 14 items for <$100 from Gymboree.

  • My friend did this and ended up with a lot of clothes in the wrong size since her first baby is small. Now her next baby is 6 months old and wearing 18 month stuff. You just never know. Just an FYI.

  • DD has almost always worn smaller than her size. I wouldn't go overboard. Even though she will be 3 in a couple of weeks, she is just now getting into 2T but her waist is still more of a 18-24.

  • Even BRU and PB kids are closing out 2014 items and have some good deals!!

  • I'd love to binge shop for baby clothes but what PPs said, my BIL's son is 8 months in 18 month clothes. Sweaters won't work in August, guess I'll hold off :-/

  • I wish I could stock up but both my first babies were a lot larger than normal after birth so I would have no idea what size to buy :( awesome for you ladies who can better guesstimate though
  • I think climate is also a factor :) maybe some of us will be able to benefit from the sales.
  • I agree - great idea in theory but I wouldn't go overboard. DD is 14 months and wears 9 month clothes. It is so hard not to pass up good deals though!

  • I'm with everyone else both my boys were in the same season but couldn't wear the same clothes. My oldest was big my youngest was small.
    Fucking bump!!!!

That's the beauty/downside to having another sibling of the same sex due just a month apart. We don't have to buy anything, but we also don't get to buy anything.

This is us. I kept a ton of DS's clothes so we won't need much at all. I haven't bought anything at all which is nice but also anticlimactic at the same time.

I thought about stocking up on plain white onesies since you can use those anytime layered or not. I'm sure I don't have a lot of those leftover since if they got stained, I just tossed them. Still not very fun and not something you'd buy at baby Gap or carter's.
  • In regards to stocking up on clothes that don't fit LO for the right season--that's why I love garage sales! Since moving it has been hard for me to find the "good" sales, since I don't know the area, but
I finally hit the jackpot today! Cute clothes in great condition and super cheap. I got 44 pieces of clothing for baby boy at about $0.19/piece. I was doing a happy dance.  If he doesn't fit into them, I'm not out much money
  • Wow, I have to think (hope?) that all these ladies with kids who didn't/don't fit into the standard sizes are exceptions, not rules. I got this tip from friends when I was pregnant with DD and it has worked beautifully! And she's a scrawny one (15th percentile weight since birth). I guess the safe bet would be to stick to things you can layer. Also, once you get into toddler sizes (2T, 3T, etc.) they tend to be the same size for about a year.

  • I was hoping we could have a PSA thread for sales and clearances we come across. Thanks for starting it! I guess I could have started it...

  • Someone said this already but it may be awesome for people who don't live where the temp fluctuates between -20 and 90 degrees throughout the year.

After going crazy at the Target After-Christmas clearance sale, and then ordering baby leggings on sale, I am kind of done with clothes for now....I feel so guilty for doing the FTM crazy binge shopping thing (although I have yet to buy a regular priced item)...

What I really need is some clearance baby gear.... like bathtubs or diaper changing pads, you know more useful  items that allows me to still shop, but which I can also show DH and be like see, our baby DOES really need this!

  • My 8 year old is still in his size 7 pants both waist and length. He actually was able to let out the elastic on his size 7 pants last month. DS 3 who just turned 2 in November just went through a growth spurt and barely wore any of his 2T pants.

DS3 also never got to wear newborn size diapers. He was too big at birth for those.

  • I bought a ton of stuff at the carters outlet but made sure everything was fairly seasonally neutral. I live in California though so our winters are mild and summers are disgusting but with very cold air conditioning everywhere.
