Girls names

Hi, I'm having a baby girl and just wondering people's opinions on names. We have 3 that we like they are Minka, Lyra & Edie. We are after something short, my husband loves Minka but I'm still not sure. Any other suggestions would be appreciated Thanks x

I have NEVER heard of a male being called Edie. Eddie (short for Edward), yeah sure, a man's name. But Edie (as in Edie Falco from Nurse Jackie/Sopranos), nope. It is pronounced E.D. like you are saying the two letters or EE DEE.

    Edie is lovely :)
    I had an aunty Edie!
I was contemplating that name myself, but we're going with Esme and then Rose as a middle name :)

Re: Girls names

  • Edie as in Nicolette sheriden's character in desperate houswives, Minka as in "Min ka" like the actress Minka Kelly and Lyra like "Lear raah"
  • Isn't Edie a singer's name, too? From the 80s?

Edie Brickell - married to Paul Simon.

I like the name Edie :)

  • Where are you from? That might help me make my decision. I believe Minka is a popular name in other countries and I think it's the best out of the 3. Edie to me is a little masculine

  • I'm from Australia
  • Yes a long e not a short maybe the spelling Eadie might be better?
  • @CutieBug1‌ I'm from wollongong just south of Sydney
  • @BecBec85‌ ahhh The Gong !!! Lovely area and great place to raise children!! I'm from Sydney originally and would often travel down for weekends away etc.
It's great to see another Australian on TB as well !! I'm sure whatever name you pick will be lovely. I haven't even reached the stage of thinking about names yet... I need to need a move on!
  • @CutieBug1‌ hope your keeping well and not near the fires down there,it is nice to see another Aussie on here, when are you due? Do you know if your having a girl or boy. I have about 5 weeks to go and still thinking of names it's really hard to find one!
  • Thanks @BecBec85‌ I've been staying indoors in the aircon the last few days! The 40+ heat is unbearable.. Luckily the fires are pretty far from where we are! I've decided to keep the sex of the baby a surprise, which makes the name thing more fun :) I have about 7 weeks to go so I'll probably start panicking soon :)
Hope you're keeping well too- I'm sure it gets just as hot up your way! stay in touch!!
