Babies: 6 - 9 Months

worrying to much??

So my daughter just turned 8 months old today, she smiles all the time, answers to her name about 60% of the time, and mimics some sounds we do. But she has yet to have a full on belly laugh. She giggles sometimes, but I have to work hard to get giggles. Sometimes she won't even giggle unless I bounce her, or something like that. I'm getting discouraged. And then I read that she should start using consonants? She is still only ooohing and ahhing. A few shrieks and grunts here and there. I'm a FTM so I don't know if I need to be concerned or what? Any input would be so helpful!

  • Sounds normal! If you are really concerned, check with your pedi but I think some babies just have "serious" personalities.

  • I would bring it up at your 9 month well check but I don't think it's concerning. She is right at the age where they start learning to vocalize. I would do a lot of mama baba dada type sounds with her and see is she tries to imitate.

As for the laughing each baby has a different personality. My DD was not a smiler or laugher as a baby. It was pretty difficult to get a response from her and it could really get me down at times. But as she got older she got happier and she is most 4 and is as happy as can be.
  • Thank you ladies! I've brought up the laughing thing before to her pedi and she said the same thing . ( serious personality) I'm gonna try the imitating with her! She does imitate my sounds sometimes, but never the faces I make lol.
