Painful sex

Has anyone else been experiencing pain during and after sex? It basically feels like it is very dry and all the nerve endings that usually produce the good feelings are not at all reactive to sex. If my husband does anything on the outside its good but anything inside hurts and just feels awful and makes me cry. I feel so bad for him because I just dont want to even try it anymore. We have tried lubes with no help. And I have such a heightened gag reflex I can't give him that either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Painful sex

  • I was having major issues too. SO could not even penetrate without me feeling major pain and burning. Turned out I had BV and a Yeast infection. I didn't know because I had very few symptoms. Are you sure none of those could be possibilities?

  • I was having a hard time with this exact thing, different positions have worked wonders for me. Spooning is the most comfortable and hasn't caused me any discomfort so far. As far as lube goes, they all cause me to break out in hives so sometimes the shower is the best route when things get a little dry. Also have him try teasing you a little longer to help hey you more worked up and get everything flowing.
  • I had this problem and it turned out i had a UTI, get checked for a UTI/YI first and experiment with lubes and pelvic exercises secondly would be my advice :)

    Good luck with it!
  • My first two pregnancies resulted in more and more pain during sex the farther along I got, leading to no sex after 25 weeks or so. So far this pregnancy I can only have sex with a warming jelly lube. It seems to almost have a numbing affect so it doesn't hurt. But I still suspect within 7-10 weeks I will not be able to have sex at all. My husband is very understanding and knows it is just what comes with pregnancy at this point. I get so sensitive down there that even touching anywhere down there hurts. I always choose to not get the cervix checks in the third tri because it is so painful.

  • Okay.  If you have ruled out any type of infection stop there.  Do not go see your OB about this anymore unless they specialize in or understand pelvic pain and are understanding of your situation.  I have had major problems with pelvic pain before and know how hard it is to find someone who will listen to you or understand.  Pelvic pain is extremely misunderstood amongst the medical community and it is no joke.  While this may very well be something that is pregnancy induced, it still is something you should get looked at by a pelvic pain specialist.  You can start with a pelvic floor physical therapist; they are usually easier to find and can be very helpful.  If you ARE having any issues with the pelvic floor, they might be able to give you some exercises to help--that would be crucial before giving birth, as birth can sometimes exacerbate those symptoms.  Dealing with it beforehand might give you the chance to stop it before it gets worse.  If they can't help you then often they will know of pelvic pain doctors who can.  Hopefully you won't have to go through all this and I might be giving too much information; I just jump when I hear people talk about this.  I know how much it can affect your life and your relationship, and I want to let you know that you are not alone and that there are people who can help you.  I had doctors tell me I was crazy before I finally found someone to help me (see my siggy).  GL!

  • A pillow or wedge under your backside might be helpful too.
  • I just posted about this.. I was hoping I wasn't the only one thinking I was losing my mind.. hubby loves it but I'm so sore after it hurts and you add round ligament pain on top of it I'm ready to die! Afterwards I'm just so sore I'm discouraged to want to have more sex at all but then I'm afraid every time we do cause it's been awhile and I dread the pain.. doctors appt on Monday so maybe I'll get some answers then.

  • Yes, what @catmagick‌ said. My mother is a physical therapist and was just telling me horror stories about her interactions with doctors who won't listen or learn about pelvic issues - and how it can be so hard on women's lives and relationships. My mother works with women to strengthen their pelvic muscles after trauma and childbirth. If you rule out infections, do consider a physical therapist or pelvic specialist. Good luck!
