Abnormal Newborn Screening Result

One of the girls blood tests came back with an abnormal result for VLCAD - (a very big word) something to do with not being able to metabolize fatty amino acids well. Normal is .60 below, hers was .76. We are hoping it was either a false positive or that she's just a carrier.

Anyone have experience with this?

    So odds are good that it won't be an issue, and in the off-chance it is they have treatment and diet options to help :)  Hang in there, I'll keep you both in my thoughts and I'd bet money you'll have some positive news to share with us after her next test!

    No experience with that test but I'd wait for the retest results. Both of mine had a second test that was abnormal - it was a thyroid test. First test normal, second test abnormal, third test normal. Hopefully, it is just a fluke.

    I have no experience with that test, but DD didn't pass the cf test in the newborn screening. We did the second and she passed. The twins didn't pass the cf test and the thyroid. They passed the thyroid the 2nd time around, but were unable to get results on the cf test and will be tested again at 3 months. My guess is they are carriers since all my kids failed the initial cf test.

    Thanks for the responses! I guess with them being a bit early etc, it isn't uncommon to get an abnormal read.
