2015-A Year of Better Self-Care

Hi All,

Are there any on the board who still have baby weight they need to lose?  I have 27lbs to lose to be back at my pre-pregnancy weight.  I'm not sure about anyone else, but a lot of the moms around me in my day to day life have been far more successful in getting back to their pre-pregnancy weight faster...but I think part of it is the fact they are actually nursing their children and I had to stop with all of that pretty early on due to my baby's health issues. Also, I became pretty stressed out in the months following my baby's birth and unfortunately I was not a woman who bounced back successfully from pregnancy--stubborn weight loss, dark under eye circles, dull skin, and found it difficult to put myself together each day from all of the sleep deprivation.  One thing I did not expect after having a baby is how broken my self-image would become. However, I'm really wanting this year to be different.  I want to learn how to take pride in my appearance again and to feel like my husband sees the girl he remembers.  I honestly feel like a big failure in the fact that I'm not looking as good as the other moms, but I do blame myself 100% for that as did not do a very good job in keeping a balance in my life or delegating at home when needed. My goal is to reach my pre-pregnancy weight by the baby's first birthday at the end of May.  This will mainly require me gaining more self-discipline with my meal portions, food choices, calorie consumption, etc.  We are already attend a gym, but we'll making an effort to increase frequency.  Anyone else aiming to lose the rest by their baby's first birthday?

  • Yes! I was slightly depressed and had no appetite after DD was born and I lost 30lbs within the first 6 days pp. I only had 6 pounds to lose to get to pre pregnancy weight. Well now im sitting at 8 pounds left to lose. I started Jillian Michaels 30 day shred in November and was doing really well with it but stopped having motivation to do it. Now im feeling bad about myself again. The 30 day shred is a 25 minute work out, which I like bc its easy to do while DD is napping. IMO it's much easier than trying to get to a gym. I am my sisters maid of honor in february in Florida which means swim suits and dresses so I need to get my butt in shape!

  • @Lissiehoya‌ don't be mad at yourself, I give you a ton of credit for exercising during your pregnancy! I ate like a cow and only exercised toward the end when I was trying to go into labor. Part of it was that I had all day sickness until 25 ish weeks. @Sunny528‌ it also helps me get motivated to look at the weight loss thread on this board.
  • Yes! I really need to get back on track. I'm only a couple lbs from my pp weight but I was in the process of losing weight when I found out I was pregnant so I still want to lose another 10 lbs and get rid of my flabby baby belly.

  • When I had DD1 I put on 50lbs. I was back at my pp weight at 9months postpartum just with breastfeeding, no exercise. With DD2 I put on 35lbs. I'm breastfeeding again but I still have 15lbs to go and a stomach that looks 6months pregnant.

  • Yup, working on it hard. We have a weight loss check in on Fridays, please join us! Good luck. It's hard to take care of yourself with kids, a hubby and everything else.

  • I definitely still have weight to lose. I am about 5ish lbs from PP weight but ideally I should be at least 15-20 lbs less than that. I want to say though, we are only 7-8 months out so please don't beat yourself up over it. With my first son, I gained 53 lbs and it took me 15 months to lose it all. I only did BFing for one month with him. It was so hard to lose it! When he turned one, I still had 20 lbs to lose. I had to really buckle down at that point, I watched what I ate and I walked between 2-3 miles a day, also did 30 Day Shred. It really does work if you do it consistently but it is so hard to find the time, energy, or motivation. But you can do it momma!

  • I gained a lot with DS and still have about 30 lbs to get back to pre pregnancy. I really wanted to lose 10 more before I got pregnant but right now I would be happy just to get back there. I had to stop nursing altogether by 5 months due to low supply. I hate seeing myself in v the mirror right now but I really haven't been putting the effort in I need to to lose the weight. I get a gym membership through work this year which I'm excited for but not really sure when to find time to go. I do a lot of walking at work but clearly not enough to kick this weight. I also have no self control with food so I really need to work on that. Here's hoping we can all have a better year and get some control back over our bodies :)
