Making coconut oil into pumpable lotion

Can I use almond oil? What would you suggest? How do I mix it? I have a kitchenaid.

Is almond oil bad for acne prone faces?

Re: Making coconut oil into pumpable lotion

  • I've seen liquid coconut oil.  Not sure if its the same integrity as virgin, organic coconut oil?  Are you making a face wash?  I've heard avocado (I think) and jojoba oil is good.

Oh, duh, just saw you are making lotion.  What about shea butter (nope, that's thick too)?  Sorry, that's all I've got.

  • Seconding what Welly said- I've seen liquid coconut oil. Try mixing that with your thicker oils until you get the texture you'd like. I also like joboja oil, but it is more expensive.

  • I'm not really into pumpable lotion, but I would think that if you can't find liquid coconut oil, that you could blend it with any liquid carrier oil to thin it out. I'm pretty sure I've come across recipes for this, but I haven't tried any. I'd probably want to add a little bit of shea butter just because I like what it does to the consistency. That's probably just me, though.
  • You can buy fractionated coconut oil that will stay liquid at room temp. I buy mine from doTerra, but I have seen it at Whole Foods.
  • You can make it into a whipped lotion. There's a recipe I've used before where it's coconut oil, almond oil, and shea butter that has been melted, solidified a bit, and then whipped to hell. It might not be completely pumpable, but holy crap is it amazing!

While I was out I stopped at this little herb place and she had almond oil and liquidy Shea butter in bulk. I bought both.

Nana, do you know what ratios I should use?

How should I process the coconut oil? Mash it all together and then whip it? Melt it?

Edit- Never mind, you melted it a bit.

I wonder if this would work for my diaper cream tins. The roll on deodorant sticks turned out great, but the tins will be too hard to stick a finger in and rub on... Thoughts?
