NT Scan done...

And the internet can be evil. The genetics counselor came into the room with the results, beaming, and said, 'these are great numbers!'  I've got 1:20000 for trisomy 18, 1: 40000 for trisomy 13 and... 1:402 for downs. She said yay and said an amnio wasn't recommended, FI then said yay and I, sounding like an ungrateful headcase, said I wondered why I couldn't have numbers in the thousands for downs. I told her I felt silly and that I was grateful for such strong numbers, but that I'd seen so many 1:5000 and above on the internet that I was a bit bummed. Needless to say, she allayed my fears, said my numbers would be even better after a healthy 18 week u/s and sent us on our way with several pictures of our precious. I'm now more relieved than I can say, and  I desperately need a nap.

    Good numbers! That's great. It's good you asked even if you felt like "an ungrateful headcase" so she could make you feel better. Have a good nap.

    That's good. My numbers were 1 in 360 or something like that. The specialist who I saw said it was really good, too, but I'm still stressing over getting the amnio. I have an appointment w/ my regular doc tomorrow and I'm going to see what she thinks.

    My numbers were similar and I wasn't super happy either but apparently they are great for "our" age!!! Congrats!!!

    Thanks ladies! And exactly snwfields, it's the "for our age" thing that irks. I'm massively relieved, but would have been more relieved had I been told I had the eggs of a 20 year old. Grrrrr... At least the counselor seemed to think I was sufficiently insane for doubting the numbers. That makes me feel better.
