Infant clothing- long and narrow? Help!

I tried searching to see if this was already discussed but didn't see anything. Please forgive me if I missed it and am repeating. I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with clothing a long, lanky baby and knows brands or styles that work better. My little one is almost three months old and long enough that he's starting to wear some 9 month clothing. Trouble is that while he's so long, he's still just barely ten pounds. What fits his length he looks like he's swimming in in the width and as he's starting to become more and more active it's becoming a bigger issue finding pants that will stay up. The waist is huge, the legs are short. I'm not worried about this summer when shorts become an option but right now it's getting into our coldest part of the year and the best I've been managing is either smaller pants that fit in the waist but look like capris paired with socks that come up higher to cover the gap, or overalls that fit in the length and can be held up with the strap but still look so wide.

  • I found the Carter's onesies to be fairly long.  My LO is average sized, but was able to fit into 6 month ones when she was 9 months.

My MIL got us some stuff in the next couple sizes from Children's Palace and I'm super excited to try them. The footless Stretchies especially. Socks have been hard as well. Long narrow feet like everything else. He came out wearing 6-12 months in those and have found Target's Circo brand works well. Babies r us's Koala brand fits a lot better than I expected but he doesn't stay in them long (ALthough I've loved some knit oversall I've found in their brand). Same with Gerber. They fit at first but he's hardly in them long enough to get much use out of them. I hate changing out his full wardrobe every few weeks.

Earlier on I found some pants with Target that worked well and have loved Old Navy's waffle-knit leggings but each growth spurt he just gets longer and more awkward to dress. So glad I'm not alone. Thank you so much to everyone that's responded!
  • I had asked both my mom and my MIL since hubby and I were both long, skinny babies as well but that wasn't much help. They lived in a warmer climate with my husband so my MIL kept him mostly in tees and diapers until he was around two and she said clothes became easier to find for him. Then with me it was dresses.
  • Adjustable waist pants and shorts have been a lifesaver for us

  • I thought I'd share, I recently discovered Carter's has some jeans with adjustable waist as small as 3 month size. Haven't had a chance to try them yet but so planning to.
