Nursing Log Clicky Poll

During the hospital stay they had us recording what time little one ate, for how long, and on what boob. I started keeping the log at home too, but have slowly started not using it. I was curious to know if anyone uses one, sooo clicky poll!

  • I kept track of everything because the nurse at the hospital said that my dr would want to see it. She didn't even ask about it at his appointment. So when he was 6 days old I stopped. I really couldn't have kept it going for a long time. I started to obsess over everything and get freaked out if I thought he wasn't eating enough ob one side.

It was interesting to see how often we changed him and other little things like that. And it was handy when we were really having to monitor how much he was eating when he started to get jaundice.

  • I use an app called MammaBaby on my phone. It also tracks how many diapers (and what kind) and a few other things I don't use as often.

Do I feel like it's necessary? No because LO has plenty of diapers and I feed her on demand, but it gives me reassurance anyway.
  • I'm with PP. I use Mammababy too. :)

  • I also use an app to track feedings and diapers. It's helpful at this point to start to see patterns and give info to the pedi if he asks about feedings. I'll probably keep it up until I go back to work.

  • I use an app called baby connect. It's my brain. She's still trying to get back up to her birthweight, so it's reassuring to easily track and see how many feedings and diapers per day. Since I have to wake her for feedings, I can quickly see how long it's been since she ate without doing math.

  • My pedi told me it wasn't necessary unless it was to remember which boob I left off with. I might start again just so I can figure out if he's eating at consistent times every day because I can never remember!

  • I only kept track at the hospital and really only logged a couple times. I just gave the nurse times when she came in and asked.

  • I clicked special snowflake because my milk only partially has come in and I am pumping, then supplementing with formula. The only thing I'm tracking is the time and amount I manage to pump since I'm trying to boost supply and I'm looking for progress.

  • I have an app called Nuu Nest, which I use primarily for feedings, though it does other things, too. I am way too brain dead to remember what time and which boob I ended on. Plus, baby isn't back to birth weight yet, so I'm keeping a pretty close eye on it for now.

  • I logged for the two days in the hospital. I stopped after that because it was one too many things to try to do, and we just feed on demand. LO has more than plenty dirty diapers. If I were worried about something I would probably use it again to keep track as I have a horrible memory.

  • I use feedbaby. It helps me keep track of which side how long which helps me know when to feed again. It also tracks dirty diapers, sleep, medicine, and a bunch of other stuff. I really like it as a point of reference because I have absolutely no concept of time.
  • I did for the first two weeks. Once DS gained enough weight and was no longer jaundiced I stopped. I remember which boob I used last and I demand feed.

  • Yep. I use an app called TotalBaby.
It helps me remember which boob he ate from last, last time he had his diaper changed, when his last nap was and all that stuff. It's pretty easy to use.

  • I use the app babynursing. In the beginning because of her weight loss- but now it just makes me feel better. With sleep deprivation-remembering when she ate and for how long she nursed is impossible to keep track of without help. There are many times that she starts to nurse and either falls asleep or loses interest so it's nice to be able to look at the timer and know how LoNg she ate.
  • We used pen and paper until he was about 10 days old--mainly because he lost in the hospital, we were trying to work out breastfeeding and LO needed to be monitored. Considering he went from 8lbs 12oz the day he was born, to 7lbs 13oz when we left the hospital, up to 9lbs 5oz at his 2-week pedi appointment, the kid is eating juuuuust fine.

However, I am exclusively pumping and I do record what time and the amount that I pump in a note on my phone. This helps me ensure I am pumping frequently enough and it's fun to see my supply increase as my body makes more milk.
  • I like hearing all of these responses! I kept track on pen And paper for the first 10 days, it was nice to see a schedule start forming. Once she hit her growth spurt it was just too much for me to write down, every time I looked at the paper and saw she just ate 45 mins ago I cried. We have an appt today to get her weight checked just to be sure we're on track. She has lots of wet and dirty diapers and had gained 2 oz the first day out of the hospital so I'm not too worried!
  • I only logged diaper out during the first three days.

  • I use an app called BabyTracker.  I love looking at the chart and trying to figure out if there is a pattern developing.  He sort of has a nap/sleep schedule starting to happen!  It's also helpful to remember which boob got nursed on last, and how long ago.

  • I stopped doing it at 5 days old.  She has more than enough poops and pees and eats plenty (she's FF).  If I was concerned about her eating/pooping/peeing, I would continue to log.

  • Our hospital breastfeeding packet had a log for the first 2 weeks. I was religious with it since I was struggling with breastfeeding, plus our pedi checked it too. My LO is 3 weeks and I just started to slowly stop recording it. I guess for me it was more of a "peice of mind" thing.
  • I stopped using one after the first week and after I knew the LO's weight was on the way up.

  • I clicked never used one but I did start with DD1 but then stopped. Paid for an app on my phone but could never remember to use it or my phone wouldn't be near me while nursing and I'd forget.

We got an itzbeen timer as a gift, so we have been using that. We don't keep a paper log, just use it to figure out how long it's been since the last feeding, diaper change, or how long he's been asleep. It also helps keep track of which boob I'm on, and it has a flash light that lights up enough to check on the baby at night without waking him.
This exactly!  The Itzbeen just tracks the last feeding, sleeping and change.  I don't bother to log it all.

  • We used one at the hospital, and stopped when we discharged. If my baby was sick or not gaining weight I might consider it, but for now she is right on track so I don't see the point. Also I'm lazy and my husband changes most of the diapers so it would just be annoying.

  • I clicked no and never used one but really I'm SS. I downloaded an app when he was 3 days old and It lasted two feedings before I gave up. He's gained 3 pounds in 5 weeks so I think he's eating just fine without the tracking.

  • I use feedbaby for feedings, diapers, sleep, and her vitamin D. DD is almost 3 weeks. I feed on demand and cannot remember which boob she took last plus I'm managing an over supply so I want to be certain. I'll probably stop with the diapers because she's voiding appropriately. The tracking makes me feel sane and gives my brain something to do.
  • With DD I only did it in the hospital. With the twins I continue to keep a log of time, breast, duration and any bottles (amount) they get. Although I feed on demand anyway I still feel I need to keep track.

  • I stopped after baby got past birth weight.
  • I used one at first. It kept a running log of how much total time I had been breastfeeding. As this number went up, I should have felt proud of what I was doing for my baby, but I found it depressing to see how much time I was sitting with a breast exposed. So I stopped using it. I feed on demand and haven't thought twice about how much time I am doing it for.
