My SUCCESSFUL INDUCED VBAC @ 42 weeks & 4 days

I did it everybody! I had my natural vbac sucessfully & really want to share my story with you all ☺

My induction was scheduled for Dec. 27 at 4pm. When my husband & I got to my labor & delivery room I was immediately hooked up to an IV for my pitocin & fluids. My cervix was checked & I was still only 3cms dilated which I had been for 2 weeks straight. I wish they hadn't even checked my cervix because it made me feel doubtful instantly. But a nurse reassured me & said that at least we can start pitocin right away instead of the bulb because the bulb would probably just fall out.

So pitocin started at 5pm & was set at 1. My contractions started instantly but felt very mild. They were 5 to 10 minutes apart so the nurse decided to bring the pitocin up to 2. At two they felt very mild to me still & my cervix was checked. I hadn't dilated at all :/ I was already so very discouraged. So at 8pm the nurse decided to bring the pitocin to 3.

Once it got to 3 the monitor was showing that I was contracting every 2 to 3 minutes. & sometimes every 1 to 2 minutes. But even still the contractions felt very mild to me. The nurse came to check me & said that I only dilated to 4cms.... Great :/ So then she decided to bring the pitocin down back to 2. But that made my contractions space back out to 5 to 10 minutes. So they decided 2.5 was the best for the pitocin.

My contractions still only felt mild. I was playing a game & talking to my husband through all of them. A nurse came in to give me a pill so she could break my water without me feeling any pain. I was kind of worried to do this because I did not want to be on the clock. But after talking it over with my husband we decided to break my water. My water was broken at 9pm. The nurse came to check me again at 11pm & I was still to 4cms... A monitor was inserted into me from the inside to make sure my contractions were actually happening. They were, my body just wasn't responding. My doctor came in & said they'd give me 11 hours & if something didn't change they'd start discussing other options. My husband asked him what would be our options? & he told him it may have to be another csection.

As soon as my doctor left I looked at my husband & started to cry. I waited 42 mother freaken weeks for my body to fail me again. I felt at this point it was all over. I had lost the fight again. I closed my eyes, prepared myself for another csection in 11 hours, & went to sleep.

At 9am a nurse came in to check me & immediately ran out to call my doctor. When she came back with my doctor he checked me, smiled so hard & said I was to 8cms. I was so proud of my body! My husband rushed over immediately & gave me a kiss & told me he knew it was going to be alright.

They brought my pitocin up to 5 & even still my contractions only felt mild. Idk if it was all that red raspberry leaf tea or evening primerose oil but I seriously wasn't feeling a damn thing. My vitals was checked & the machine started making a weird noise. I had somehow gotten a bad fever of 113.8 out of nowhere. They gave me antibiotics through my IV & told me that our son would need blood drawn after he was delivered to make sure it wasn't an infection or anything.

I was very scared about this but I tried not to worry about it too much. At 11am I was checked again & my sons head was right there. They immediately told me to start pushing. & at 11:11am on Dec. 28th he was born!

My husband cut his cord & he was placed on my chest to breastfeed & have an hour of skin to skin contact. Later on he was taken to have his blood drawn & everything came back fine. However, my fever didn't leave until 2 days later. Nobody still knows why that happened.

My doctor came to check on me the morning of our discharge & thanked me for reminding him that he really doesn't know it all & patience is key. Patience truly is key. That was the lesson I learned from this entire experience.

Thank you ☺ You can do it! My doctor told me a very inspirational thing in the very beginning that made me try so hard for this which was "your body doesn't expect you to cut your baby out. Your body doesn't even understand that concept. It'll get the baby out on it's on". & that's exactly what it did ☺

Congrats! Tell me your fever of 113 is a typo. (-:

Lol I know that is extremely high. It stayed to 103 for about 4 hours then dropped to 101 which was still too high. The whole time I was on antibiotics but the fever didn't go away until they stopped the postpartum pitocin. So I really think it was the pitocin.

Lol yes I need to edit that it was 103
  • Congrats! I was induced overdue too (not vbac though) and it went great. I think it is important to share the good stories. Sometimes the internet is too full of the bad ones!

Thank you! ☺ I agree there aren't enough successful stories on the web to read about vbacs. Especially ones like my situation. & I really think it's because once going so far overdue as I did people forget the whole idea of trying for a vbac. So I hope my story helps other mums see it is possible.
  • Lurking from May 15. Congrats!!! Your story brought tears to my eyes. I'm hoping for a similar outcome. Enjoy your LO
  • So happy for you! It is great to hear success stories. I had an unsuccessful vbac this time and love reading when others had a better outcome!!

Sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted. I hope my story inspires you to try again if your able to next time.
  • Having had pitocin with both my labors, I am mostly shocked that you slept through those contractions without an epidural! Without the pitocin, I could have slept through contractions but once they turned the pit on, there was no sleeping.

Glad to hear it went so well and that you and your son came through healthy and whole!
