Fifth Cycle of Femara (loss mentioned)

Hello,

I just turned 37 and have been TTC for 3 years.  I am diagnosed with PCOS and did not respond to clomid.  I've had great response to femara minus this cycle.  The first cycle on femara I think I may have had an early miscarriage.  And I ovulated the next three cycles but ended in BFNs.  This cycle (#5) I did not ovulate.  Anyone else have this experience?  I'm asking because we were thinking of doing a final round of femara and then we are going to move to IVF.  Now I'm wondering if we should even bother with the 6th round.  Thanks for any help!

Re: Fifth Cycle of Femara (loss mentioned)

  • Hi there!! Sorry you find yourself here. I am currently on my fourth IUI, third on femara. The first round ended in a chemical pregnancy. I didn't respond great the second time. This time (with a new RE), I didn't respond great at my first follicle check so he put me on the "stair step" protocol. So...I took femara 5mg CD 3-7 then femara 7.5mg CD 9-13. I go tomorrow to see if I have nature follicles. Perhaps this protocol could be beneficial for you? My RE said PCOSers can develop resistance to meds like femara & stair stepping gives the follies a little nudge. He even said it produces better pregnancies. I will let you know tomorrow how I responded!

  • Thanks for your response.  After 3 years I feel as if I should be an expert in all things dealing with infertility, but I feel just as clueless sometime.  We were so happy to have such a great response on femara after such a long journey with clomid and it not really working.  So it was a huge let down this month when I didn't respond.  We have done 5 rounds of femara with IUI on the 3rd and 4th.  I'm hoping you have good news tomorrow!  I'll keep my fingers crossed!
  • Well...I went in for my monitoring u/s this AM after my stair step protocol. I have 2 lead follicles on my R ovary, currently measuring 14mm each. I have to go back Monday to ensure they've matured more & will likely be ready to trigger around then. So---the protocol did work but damn, it seems like my body is taking forever!
Also--I'm not trying to hijack your board but just wanted you to know it seems like the stair step protocol was effective (albeit, slow) for me. It sounds as if our situations are similar so perhaps it's worth looking into??
