TTC After a Loss

PGS results are in

We heard from the RE yesterday with my results from the genetic testing. We had 13 embryos biopsied for testing.

6 are abnormal
2 had no data so we don't know if they are normal or not
5 are normal

He said he was actually surprised I only have 5 normal and thinks this could be contributing to our struggles to get pg a 3rd time and could explain why I have had 2 mc's already.

I got off the phone feeling very conflicted. I know I should just focus on having 5 healthy but I'm sort of back to feeling this is all my fault.

The other thing the RE discussed is what to do with the 2 unknowns. We could choose to do the first FET with 1 healthy embryo or we could transfer 1 healthy and 1 unknown. If the unknown is healthy we could have twins. If it's not healthy then it wouldn't impact the healthy embryo. We're not 100% sure yet what we will decide to do.

Thanks for listening :-)

PgAL welcome

It was very overwhelming for me too the day I got the call with our PGS test results.  Don't try and process everything at once, give yourselves a little time to think over what you want to do.  We had 5 normal out of 10, and with my endo, I couldn't help but think the same thing as you (that it's all my fault), but please don't blame yourself!  It is easy to be hard on ourselves during this process, but we just have to keep moving forward with the information we get at each step.  I think it's great you did the testing, I highly recommend choosing to do it, because now you know you have 5 healthy embryos and your odds have increased significantly!  ((hugs)) to you and T&P for your upcoming FET!

I am extremely glad we did the testing. It was definitely the right decision for us

I'm happy to hear you have 5 healthy embryos! Just so you know - medically and genetically, 6 unhealthy doesn't necessarily mean you have anything wrong with you. Just keep focusing on the fact that you have 5 that are great! It's extremely difficult to do PGS on embryos because you can only test 1 cell... I am so glad you got results on most of them!

Thanks Dr KT! I'm trying really hard to focus on our 5 healthy and see the positives in all this.

  • 5 healthy embryos is great!  I'm sure it's a tough decision on whether or not to go with the 1 healthy embryo or 1 healthy and 1 unknown.   It's a big decision but do what you think is best for you and your H.  So happy to hear about the 5 healthy ones though!  That's great news!
  • I hope by this writing that you are feeling a little less overwhelmed. I've not been in your shoes, but any of this info is very overwhelming and takes days and weeks to come to different levels of understanding.

I think it is great you have the 5 embryos...many women who might not have had any abnormals can't get the 5! And it reinforces that you made the right decision for the expensive testing process. However you choose to proceed, good luck and big hugs!

5 normals seems like a great number to me! And when you look at the total number retrieved, it seems like a good percentage of normal ones. FX for you.

eta- I have no advice on the multiples thing, except that I know my RE usually transfers more than 1 if you're over 35.

  • 5 normals seems like a great number to me! And when you look at the total number retrieved, it seems like a good percentage of normal ones. FX for you.

eta- I have no advice on the multiples thing, except that I know my RE usually transfers more than 1 if you're over 35.
That's interesting, I'll be 35 in March. I'll have to ask if that is part of why it was mentioned

    PgAL welcome

  • Congratulations, 5 normal embryos is beyond fantastic! I'm an embryologist, and I perform embryo biopsies quite often. To be honest, we hardly ever transfer more than 1 normal embryo, but it depends on what day that biopsy was done and what technology was used for the freeze. Also, ask if the embryologist could thaw and re-biopsy the ones with no result. Good luck!
  • Glad to hear about the five healthy embryos! That's awesome. :) The ones with abnormalities are very much not your fault! Reproduction is such a messy process with so many places that things can go wrong along the way. There's no fault in that, there's nothing you did.

Thanks, We were told they could re-biopsy them again but the cost may not be the best way to spend our money since the testing is oop. And we do have the 5
