Slightly elevated protein after 24 hour urine catch

has anyone had to do a 24 hour urine? I did due to some headaches
I was having and my nurse said the levels were slightly elevated and they wanted me to monitor my BP and report any high readings..... Has anyone else had this and if so what was the outcome? Guess I'm just a litte upset and nervous. I want this baby to come naturally.
The past two days I have had mild nausesa too.... 37 weeks tommorow.

Sounds like a precaution, but they'll want to act of you get worse. I'm expecting to have to do a 24 hr urine after my appointment tomorrow. I'm having headaches, swelling, and elevated bp. But I also have a history of pregnancy induced hypertension and mild pre eclampsia.

Edit because spell check is REALLY not my friend today

  • Depends on what your actual number was. Anything over 300 is considered diagnostic for pre-e (if you also had at least two high BP readings). I developed severe preeclampsia at 39 weeks last time so I've done the urine catch 3 times so far this pregnancy. Once for a baseline (it was in the 80s), once in second tri after a high reading (it was in the 180s) and once a few weeks ago after a high reading (it was in the 250s). I'm instructed to keep an eye on my BPs and call in if I have other warning signs (headache that won't go away, extreme swelling, vision changes, etc). I've had a few more recent reading across the 140/90 mark so I'm pretty sure I'm in for another 24 catch after my next appointment. Pre-e can develop quickly so sounds like they're just wanting you to keep an eye on it but doesn't sound like you're at the point where they're able to diagnose yet.

  • The nurse left me a voice mail as it was late yesterday afternoon and office isn't open until tomorow. I plan to call first thing in the morning. I'm not sure what it was as she just said "slightly" elevated. I haven't had any high BP readings at the office. I experienced one at home but I think I was having a panic attack at the time (other stressors).
  • I know easier said than done but I'd try not to worry too much at this point. If it was serious they'd likely having you going straight into L&D for more monitoring rather than having you just keep an eye on it from home. Hang in there and hope you can get more info tomorrow.

  • I did, I was admitted for the 24 hour urine and labs. I did not have headaches, I had slightly elevated blood pressures, sometimes. I didnt go home until I had 2 baby girls via c-section ... its a longer story, but ends well :-)

  • Yup, I'm in the same boat. PP have explained it well, so I don't have much to add. Try to relax and talk to your Dr/ MW more about it to give you peace of mind.
  • I had to do several of them, but I had pre-e diagnosed at just 23 weeks (I had a healthy baby at 33.6 weeks, but my water broke).  It just sounds like they're going to keep an eye on you, which is good. Hopefully it doesn't turn severe and all will be OK.
