S/O: What's in your purse?

I was reading through the diaper bag post to try to find some good suggestions, and I forgot that carrying a purse was a thing...I know, right? I only carry my phone case, which is a wallet, and my keys. I never have the need to bring anything else with me anywhere. Most women think I'm crazy, and I think the same of them when they tell me that their purse weighs five pounds and has $30 worth of coins in it - exaggeration, clearly.

So, as a spinoff, what's in your purse? Will you carry a purse separately from your diaper bag, or do you want to combine the two?

Bonus points (the points don't matter) for a picture of the purse you have.

Re: S/O: What's in your purse?

  • My purse is a disaster zone. FEMA should be called. In addition to my wallet stuffed full of old receipts and expired coupons, I also have my day timer, every medicine known to man, band aids, an orange, an old candy bar, an empty Tupperware, oversized stack of my business cards, and, believe it or not, more. I think I just convinced myself to clean it out tomorrow...

I would definitely see the benefit of having a separate and less... Stressful... Diaper bag.

  • My purse is a disaster! I stopped carrying a diaper bag long ago and it now lives on my back seat. Mostly I shove wipes, 2 diapers and a ziplock of finger food in my purse and we are good to go. If I need to take more crap I put it in dd's backpack and make her carry it. Child labour FTW! Here is a pic of her cute backpack :) and my purse

  • Mine holds cards/money, keys, epi-pens, chapstick, band-aids, a book, my sketchbook, 2 pens, zofran (at the moment at least), a hair-tie, my phone, camera (my phone is just an old flip one so no photos with it), purel, lotion, and mints for when the zofran doesn't work.
I will post a pic later because I freaking love my purse. I had it custom made by someone on etsy. I searched for 6 years for a purse to replace one I had stolen and never found one. Finally found a seller who could make it and it is awesome!

  • I'm in the camp that throws my cash, cards, keys, Chapstick, and phone in my oversized wallet/ wristlet. It travels from my work bag to my diaper bag or I just carry it alone. Easy peasy.

  • My purse has my wallet, phone, and keys in it.  If I remember I throw a chapstick/lip balm in there because my lips get really dry, but half the time my kid steals it.

I still use my Stevie when I go out with my kid so I can stick a pair of underwear, change of pants, sweatshirt/jacket and bottle of water in there for him too.

  • I have my wallet, keys, pocket knife, lip balm, pen, 2 granola bars, gum, a condom (my best friend has a sense of humor and I just don't feel like taking it out), and hand sanitizer.
When the baby comes I'm planning on carrying a cute hippy backpack I use to use for work. That way I'm not wacking people and store displays with a giant-ass diaper bag and my back won't hurt so bad since I have mild scoliosis. My mom did this for my brother and I and has my SIL doing it too. They both swear it's easier so I'm going to trust them. (:
  • The idea of a backpack seems most reasonable...just wondering if things would get lost.  Truly, I am hoping for a Kate Spade surprise sale prior to June!  Well and that I feel rich that day!

My current purse...well I swap all the time so then I have a catchall bag that is the combo of all the junk I don't want from the other purse.  It's a disaster like most.

Key items though chapstick, keys, cards, and gum.

  • I'm a huge designer purse girl! I have about 8 or 9 balenciaga bags just to name a few. I have everything you can imagine in my purse. I figure I won't be going anywhere with twins without the stroller so I'll just use that for storage of baby items and just get a simple black baby bag of some kind. I'll love my kids but I won't give up being a designer girl.
  • I haven't carried a diaper bag in about 18 months. I call this my Marry Poppins bag... just a big leather tote from Jcrew. Simple, but I love it. Inside are the following items:
    - toddler sized havianas
    - fancy sunscreen
    - a crushed baggie of goldfish
    - 3 matchbox cars
    - 7 lego pieces
    - wallet
    - keys
    - hand wipes
    - 1 smooshed diaper
    - a hair clip
    - a pair of tights (so that's where those went...)

I probably will be using a diaper bag as a purse...but now my purse contains wallet, check book, bills, old pay stubs, tums, and other useless items I need to rid of.

  • My purse is big...it weighs a ton and has my life in it! I love designer purses and will probably just switch to a wristlet or clutch that I can toss in a separate compartment of the diaper bag once baby arrives. I have come around to not buying a designer diaper bag but won't give up my purses!

  • In my work purse I carry my wallet, cosmetic bag, phone, book, sunglasses, Tylenol, notepad and some pens. When I am with my kids I have larger purse I use that has everything mentioned above plus diapers, wipes, band aids, diaper cream, extra set of clothes for my 19 month old, some toys and books.
  • My purse currently has a wristlet (which I use as my wallet), phones (I keep a separate blackberry for work), hairbrush and ties, umbrella (in Boston, you just never know), my prenatals, today's lunch (veggie lentil soup), some extra jewelry left over from the last time I stayed somewhere overnight), an extra tube of toothpaste that I keep forgetting to put back in my bathroom, a number of parking tickets (whoops!)... I really need to clean that nonsense out.

The only thing that will transfer to my future diaper bag will be my wristlet, phones, and MINI hairbrush - which I currently keep in my office. I think space will be at a premium for extra clothes for LO and diapering essentials (and eventually food/snacks and toys) so I'll need to pare down.

    Depends on the event/bag.

    Always:
    Phone
    Keys
    Lip balm
Wallet or credit cards/id/cash in a tiny purse
    Benadryl
    Epi-Pen

    Rotating:
    Book
Various lip stick and earrings (I tend to take them off and leave them in my purse for months)
    Comb
    A zillion old receipts

ETA: Today, all of the above except lip stick and a book (not needed at work).

  • I put my wallet and keys in the diaper bag, but when I don't use my bag I have hand sanitizer, wallet, keys, nail kit, mini hair brush, and pens.
  • Hopefully ya'll were cleaning out those purses during the content listing. These are funny.

I still use my Stevie when I go out with my kid so I can stick a pair of underwear, change of pants, sweatshirt/jacket and bottle of water in there for him too.

I have to tell you when I read that I did a double take. My name is Stevi', so I had a moment of how does this woman know my name! Just randomness, carry on.
  • Just cleaned mine out today! I found a bottle of Tylenol, an expense check for work, an estimate for tree trimming, my wallet with receipts for work expenses. A large dog bone, bracelets, two different shades of lipstick, Chapstick, a spare key, a receipt for an oil change... As you can see it was time to clean it out. It's a purse from Target from last year. A grey hobo type thing. I guess I'll figure out the diaper bag/purse thing as I go once there is a baby here :)
  • Wallet, cosmetic case with epipens and benadryl, another cosmetic case with chapstick, lipstick, hand lotion, Bobbi Brown retouching powder, and oil blotting papers. It's clean right now but normally its a DISASTER filled with pieces of silverware, gum wrappers, old receipts, and trash.
  • For Xmas my bff got me a really trendy black diaper bag that has these really cool circles that have different colors in them and some are divided like pies with colors, it's really cool and gender neutral!
Anyways what think is even cooler was the fact it came with an entire set!!! Yup ladies.. It has the big bag with a ton of room, a smaller matching bag that can act as a PURSE for me it even had a beautiful satin green bow with tiny black polka dots , and a couple little zip bags one for a bottle which I wont need cause I will breast feed, and a changing pad! The insides of all these bags and accessory items are a easy clean material like a satin type of bright green material... I totally dig this set... THANK YOU MY SWEET BFF!!! BTW... It's already loaded up with baby stuff all I need is diapers and wipes!!
    Blessings, Chasi n fam.
  • Tynoal my wallet my phone and any money a jewelry box cause one of my necklaces keeps breaking chapstick if my son has no taken it and my wic folder
  • I generally don't carry a purse. I just stick my phone, wallet, and Chapstick in my jeans pockets. Since I got pregnant, I've been carrying one so that I can add snacks and meds.

I'm definitely going the "wristlet of essentials" route so that I can Todd that into a purse or diaper bag as needed. No WAY I'm carrying a purse AND a diaper bag.

  • Here's my purse. I freaking love this thing! The long strap works great for using it cross-body when babywearing.
