Trouble TTC

Charting

Does anyone still chart? I've been charting for 10 months now and I thought it was all great because I was loaded with information, but neither my OBGYN nor the RE seemed too interested in my charts. I mean I guess they liked that I could confirm ovulation? I'm glad I had it for the piece of mind of knowing I was doing everything I could by myself.

My question is when you are doing medicated cycles are most ladies still charting? Should I stop charting and just use OPKs on cycles where we aren't medicated? Am I right in my thoughts that it is pointless to chart with IUI cycles because your ovulation is controlled?

Re: Charting

  • I was excited to show my RE my charts since OB had me start charting last year to confirm ovulation. RE briefly asked to see charts, said now that he saw them it was up to me if I wanted to continue because he won't ever ask for them again. I'd guess the same is true for you!

  • Thanks for the input ladies! I appreciate the opinions. I guess I just need to think about it more about how it pertains to me personally. At this point I take charting way less seriously than I did in the beginning.  I really don't know how much I rely on it. All it tends to do is frustrate me during the 2WW. Whether my temps look perfect and textbook "pregnancy" or not its always a negative test!

I'm giggling to myself as I read along this thread - I remember printing out and bringing my charts to my first RE appointment, feeling so proud and dutiful with all of my evidence and paperwork (I was one of those students who always wanted to have perfect work and be recognized).

The dude literally flipped through them like a picture book, tossed them to the side of his desk, and then leaned forward and started talking about treatment options. I was sitting there with my jaw hanging, thinking "But...look at my pretty work!"

I haven't charted since :)  I just enter in my meds on fertility friend. I kind of miss it!

    ED: for spelling, as always

@typo31 and @BlueJoan, do you have to have FF premium in order to enter meds?
Nope! If you go into the day's data page it will be one of the drop down menu options.

Charting cannot tell you anything about pregnancy; that's not its purpose at all.  Its job is to tell you the day you ovulated and your luteal phase length - that's it.

    Hiya @w+c3!  I haven't seen you in a long time :-)

I'll chart until menopause.  It's not a tool for pregnancy; it's a tool for my cycle.  I like knowing my ovulation day and when my period will come.

EDIT: I don't know what my fertility issue is, though.  Depending on what it is, charting may lose its accuracy.  We'll see.
Hi, @Joy2611! It has been a long time! I'm not as much of a baby name crazy as I used to be
;)  I have been wondering if that was you! But your screen name picture is different!
  • @typo31 I had a similar experience to you today at my first RE appt.

I printed all my charts out to give to the RE and he was not even interested in seeing them. Asked if they all confirmed ovulation and if I had any concerns. Told me to stop temping when we start treatment next cycle as medication will mess with it and I'll be having ultrasounds and a trigger shot.
  •  Me too @Joy2611!  Hope you have great success with your RE.

This.  Charting has a lot of value beyond TTC.  For me it has been a really important part of getting to know my body better and understanding my cycle.  I am just about to start meds this cycle but planning to continue charting throughout because I think it's important to be aware of what's happening in my body.

    TTC since October 2012
Me:  Ovulatory dysfunction, hypothyroid.  DH:  Normal!
Treatment:  Levothyroxine for thyroid; starting Clomid early 2015.
    PAIF/SAIF All Welcome!
  • I still chart using the Fertility Friend App just so I can look back at my cycles in regards to when I got positive OPK tests, CM notes and I used the app when I was going through medicated IUI's to keep track of my follicle sizes and lining measurements. I have never temped (I wake up at different times throughout the week) so I never tracked that. I just think charting is interesting to see what your body is doing....obviously with using FF for over 3 years with no BFP it is not helping us conceive.

    Me: 33, DH: 32

    TTC: 2 years
    Fertility blood tests all normal
    Tilted uterus
    3 day ultrasound 17 follicles
    HSG: 11/13/13- tubes open
DH SA: SUPER sperm (145 million, 84% motility, 22% morphology)
All infection disease and immunity blood tests NORMAL

FIRST IUI May 2014: 100 mg Clomid days 5-9, third ultrasound CD 13 revealed four follicles 27, 24 and 20 and 13mm. Trigger shot May 28 with IUI May 29 and 30 (fingers crossed) - BFN started spotting 11DPO :(

IUI #2 B2B 6/23 and 6/24, three mature eggs and 130 million sperm! FX this is the month!  BFN 7/8

3rd cycle benched due to cysts - TI with OPK tests -  BFN

3rd mediated cycle: Clomid+Trigger+TI  (three follies left side, one on right as usual....what the hell right ovary get it together and produce some damn follicles!) 7DPO progesterone level 43 with NO suppositories YAY for a natural strong ovulation. Beta canceled started spotting 13DPO - Third time is not a CHARM! 14 day cycle WTF! Everything looks normal - RE wants to start injectables next cycle so this cycle I'm benched

Officially benched until March....but still plan on trying the baking soda douche due to my excessive and thick CM
