Is the third option bumpers for show but LO will not use the crib with them in it? Or that they're in it and LO is not but the bumpers will remain when baby is present?

Bumpers will remain once mom deems baby old enough to be ok with bumpers.
My mom really wanted me to use bumpers in the crib. I told her it was a hazard. She said it would make the big crib seem more cozy for dd. I put the bumpers on, saw they kind of flopped on the mattress a bit, and immediately removed them before dd slept in the crib. I might use them later when she starts moving more and gets hands/legs stuck if it's a problem. Otherwise we have an expensive decoration sitting in the closet.
FWIW DS1 and DS2 slept with bumpers and were ok. However this time I did opt for a mix of mesh and material of a bumper. I think as long as the bumper is not lose that it's ok. But maybe that's just me.
I got mesh bumpers for DD when she was about 7 months old because she would get her arms and legs stuck in the middle of the night and wakeup screaming. We took them off around 14 months or so.
My bedding came with a bumper but the crib isn't even up yet. I think I will add the bumper once lo is older than 6 months. But then the worry is that he will use it to help him climb out.
I didn't even buy a crib bedding set, just sheets, since it is unsafe for baby to have the bumpers or blanket. It seemed like an unnecessary expense.
I won't be putting bumpers in until dd moves Around enough in the crib to hit her head or get limbs stuck. At that point I would consider mesh bumpers.
I guess we just weighed our options. The mesh ones we had were so flimsy if she tried to stand on them her weight would have just compressed it, not give her leverage to climb out of the crib. Also, kids are more than capable of climbing out of cribs without bumpers. The world is full of rules for raising babies now, and can be a little over the top sometimes if you ask me. It would sure be ideal if we could place our children in a bubble so they never get hurt, but highly unrealistic.
Bumper is rolled up in the armoire in the babys room.. also, she doesnt sleep in her crib anyway and probably won't till after six months or so. Furthermore, I have a mesh bumper for that time if necessary, which it likely won't be.
I didn't know babies get their arms and legs stuck in the slats. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. We don't own a bumper and don't plan on ever getting one. MIL made our crib sheets.
We had a mesh bumper for DD1 and theres really no way that I could see that it could be used to help them climb out. Its tied to the vertical slats and is super flimsy. If they stood on it, it would immediately slide down the slat and be level with the mattress.
We are in the camp of only using a crib sheet - we never bought a bedding set. The sleep sack kept our older son from getting legs stuck. I know this isn't part of the topic but I highly recommend looking into teething guards for the top rails before your babies get teeth. We thought our older son didn't chew...well he did.
DS1 destroyed our crib by chewing up the entire upper rails in one nap.
With DS#1 we ended up using the plush bumpers when he would continuously hit his head on the sides of the crib and wake up screaming. I think he was around 6 months old and rolling both ways. We took them out when he started standing so that he couldn't use them to climb out. Not that he ever tried, in fact, I'm pretty sure that kid would still be in a crib if we let him.
DS#2, we never used them. We never needed to. The only time I even considered it with him was when his binky would mysteriously roll out of the crib. I thought about getting some mesh bumpers to keep his binky in the crib, but was too lazy to spend the money.
DS#3, well, we shall see. Right now the only thing in his crib is him and a sheet. We just take it on an as-needed basis. I certainly won't be putting anything in there until he can reliably roll both ways though.
I was going to wait a while but since my husband hates going to buy buy baby and we were there to return something, we picked up the mesh siding. I felt like an idiot trying to put it on...I still don't think I did it right!
I really do not understand why people are so intent to have bumpers in the crib. I just don't get it. They may help prevent sticking limbs through for a very brief period of time, but they become unsafe again around 9-11 months when baby can pull to standing and climb on then. We just let dd1 learn not to stick her limbs in the crib...
I was always of this mindset but DD2 gets her arm stuck more nights than not lately and I hear the bonk, bonk, bonk of her little head as she wiggles side to side because she can't move very far with her arm stuck. She doesn't always cry so who knows how long this has been going on before I woke up. I'm considering mesh bumpers to keep her from getting stuck in a position where she keeps hitting her head.
