How often are you bathing your baby?

Hey ladies! Wondering how often you are bathing your babies. My son has just started to actually enjoy his baths and we bathe him every few days. He seems to sleep the best after a bath at night so would love to increase them but wonder if bathing too much isn't a good thing (dry skin etc.)? I plan to ask more at his doctors appointment but would love to know your experience and maybe it is just a coincidence that he sleeps better after one. Thanks as always!

Re: How often are you bathing your baby?

  • Every night. He hates it lol we only use soap every third day :)

  • Pips enjoys baths, but has dry skin so she only gets one about every three days, unless there is a major puketastrophe or blowout.

Because of this, we usually bath her mid-morning when she's wide awake, before she takes her morning nap. For her bedtime routine, in place of a bath, we do baby massage. She has mixed feelings about it, but loves having her feet and hands rubbed more than anything.

  • Every day with soap, but put on cetaphil cream afterwards for dry skin.
  • Every day as a part of our bedtime sleepy routine. Haven't seen any issues with dry skin

  • 2x/week because my kids have really dry skin. We do baby massage with lavender lotion every night to still promote relaxation because he does love a bath.

  • We do twice a week but faces, hands and bums get washed daily.
  • She showers with me once a week, and I wash her down with a warm cloth daily.

  • We do every other day right now, but want to make it a nightly routine soon to try to get her on a schedule since I go back to work soon. Plus, she gets sweaty from being held 24/7 & spits up a lot, so she needs it daily anyway! She is starting to like baths, thankfully :) we use soap each time, but don't have dry skin issues.

  • I do every 2-3 days and use soap only once and sparingly. After the bath his scalp, back & belly gets baby oil. He likes his arms & legs rubbed so I do lavender lotion on those.

His face gets wiped off with a damp cloth at least once a day.

Yes! Face, hand and bum wash is daily. I do that in the morning and then let him have naked time to air out his bum. It's his favourite time of the day.
  • Every 2-3 days. DS likes to spit up a lot and he has epic poops.

About twice/week.  We have to do sponge baths because of Claire's casts and she hates it.  I am hoping she will love baths once we can use the tub.  Then we will probably go every other day.

I try to wipe off her face and hands with a damp cloth every day.

  • Twice a week! Its all they really need right now and with winter months they are pron e to more dryness. Just like our skin. Washing (soap or not) makes you more dry

  • We bathe every night and soap up every other day. Lots of lotion everyday too
  • Sundays and Wednesdays.  If we want to do more (she loves them), we don't use soap.

  • DH insists on nightly baths, but soap is every other day. I use coconut oil all over afterwards.

I think if you wanted to do naked time, you could buy tucks pads? Would that work for boys, or does it spray all in the air?

  • I haven't had much experience with little boys, so I'm just gonna throw this out there, feel free to tell me how crazy it is. Could you combine nakey time and tummy time, right before bath time? At least the pee would be contained. I'm sure there's some sort of pad you could lay down (I'm gonna liken it too a 'puppy pee pad' because that's all I can think of). Maybe that's crazy, but it seems like it might work as a start. I know tummy time doesn't always last a long time, but it might be a place to start...

  • We aim for once a week and mostly have managed that. Although we've had better luck with showers over baths. LO doesn't seem to get stinky and in between he gets wiped down with his baby wipes as needed.
  • @j3nnyb my best friend used to do naked time with her son when he started to walk... Until the day he walked over to the baby gate, leading to their down stairs laundry room and proceeded to pee all over every single wonderfully carpeted step. How she didn't see that coming, I'll never know, lol.

How? Where? I'd like to do this, but I think O would just pee everywhere!
I do it on the floor in his room on a big bath towel folded I half. He does often pee, but since I'm right there I can catch it. I only do it for about 10-15 minutes, but I really like for him to have diaper free time and he loves being naked!

  • Ok, should I be doing naked time? I guess I never thought about it. Caleb loves the bath and being naked. I really want to incorporate bath time in our nightly routine but getting the bath tub out every night is a pain in the ass. Any tips!

We have been sticking to bathing about once a week.

We have been sticking to bathing about once a week.

We've been using the sponge things from BRU in a bathroom sink (the ladybug is the one we were given). We leave the drain open, but the sponge allows *just* enough water to stay on her bum. We have a high, swiveling faucet that we leave running on her feet during the bath & she loves kicking the water. We turn the faucet to center and give a final rinse off all over & rinse her hair.
If that's not a possibility, we've also used the peri bottle for rinsing.
  • DD really enjoys her bath. I do it every other day, but only use soap every second or third time.

  • I aim for every other day, some times he goes a couple days. He had a bath 2 days in a row this week because I was trying something for his cradle cap.  His skin does get a little dried out though if we do it too often (his dad has super dry skin too)  He doesn't have a lot of hair, and is usually not too stinky.  We usually do the bath during the day.  He seems to like it :)
