Trying to Get Pregnant

Recommend your acne cream

Since going off of the pill my acne has been really bad, lot of big red pimples.  My acne was under control and fine under the pill.
What do to use for your acne treatments? Any face wash you recommend as well? I've been using St. Ives but may be it's time to switch,
Thanks for the suggestions!!! Happy New Year!

Re: Recommend your acne cream

  • I use Burts bees acne cream and I love it. It doesn't leave my face dry like a lot of other things I've used.

I use witch hazel with lemon and some lavender oil. It's good for toning too. When I run out of it I might just buy Dickinsons witch hazel

ETA: Scratch that, Dickinsons is the same ingredients as regular witch hazel

    It's a BOY

  • My dermatologist recommended the CeraVe cleanser to me. You may also need a product with salicylic acid as well to help with the breakouts?? Maybe try to use a mask once or twice a week too. I use the glam glo mask.

  • I love all of these suggestions! Thanks!
  • I have had constant acne my entire life. I've been through just about everything including Accutane and dermatological light therapy treatments (ouch). The Accutane was the only thing that truly worked. However, recently I went back on minocycline and Epiduo and that combo had really helped. I stopped the mino due to TTC and not wanting to abruptly stop since it's a Cat D drug.

ugh quote fail, wow that's a lot. My friend was on some acne meds and her dermatologist recommend she even stop using some of her meds while TTC, I think epiduo was on of them.  I thought about going to a dermatoligist though.

+1 for CeraVe! I have really sensitive skin and its gentle but still strong. I've seen travel sized samples around, but before I started using it I emailed the company and they sent me free samples.

If you're using the St. Ives apricot scrub stuff, please stop immediately. It's horrible for your skin and will make acne worse. The exfoliating beads/particles are not uniform and are way too harsh for your face. I have always struggled with my skin and been doing an adaptation of the beginners routine from skincare addicts on reddit. It was mentioned to me by a friend. When I keep up wth it my skin is amazing. I used to use a bunch of expensive products, and still use a few on occasion, but honestly most of the stuff I use now is from the drugstore or amazon and pretty cheap. The basic principles are not washing too much and doing regular, chemical exfoliation. In the morning I only rinse my face, use a stridex pad, moisturizer, and sunscreen. At night I remove makeup with oil (you can use a variety of different oils but I use a combo of evening primrose and mineral oils), wash with CeraVe cleanser, use a St. Ives exfoliating pad, an AHA gel, persa gel for pimples, then moisturize, and if you want a thin layer of Vaseline before bed. That's called #sluglife. It sounds like a lot but it's pretty fast. The quick/easy version that I do a lot of the time is just cleanse, pad, moisturize. Treat pimples with the benzoyl peroxide as needed.

@mamasarge‌ what does the Vaseline before bed do?

YES. The little apricot "pieces" are basically jagged edges that rip your pores/skin. If you want beads, I suggest switching to the plastic ones (you know, like Clean and Clear and others have; they're usually blue beads) but I have heard that these beads are not environmentally safe as they just hang out in the water that they run off into.

Anyways, I have had THE WORST acne my whole life and the only thing that made it better was Accutane. If you're just having hormonal acne (which I still get despite the big momma of acne treatment) I've found that using Cerave or  Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer have really helped me. They are cheap and very gentle. Oh also very, VERY random but I recently started using a snail serum cream by Mizon (a Korean company and I'm not Korean so I'm not even sure how I found out about this...) but it's really made my skin better. It's available on Amazon and I like it so much I even got it for my mom for Christmas! Oh and it's also cheap :)
  • I started a thread similar a couple months ago and got really great advice from these ladies. Since then, I went to go see a dermatologist because I wasn't having any luck. Like @&theheartbreakers, I was given Epiduo. Seems to be doing the trick. Good luck!

I have acne-prone skin, but also developed very sensitive skin (especially around my eyes) over the last year or so. What a lovely development. I was using the Clinique 3-Step products but they were really drying and had dyes in them. I switched to the First Aid Beauty brand face cleanser and intense relief cream.  It is really great for my finicky skin. The cream is very rich, so it hasn't eliminated a blemish here or there, but it is very gentle. You can find it at Sephora. The entire line has great reviews. I use a clinique acne spot cream when I get a blemish.

Disclaimer though - I've only been off Nuva Ring for 1 month. I'm aware that my skin could totally change in the months ahead!

  • I use Rodan and Fields Unblemish Regimen. Rodan and Fields are the ladies who invented Pro-active...and they  came out with all different kinds of anti-aging products/regimens.  I seriously LOVE  UnBlemish, but it does stink..like sulfur.   you get used to it.  Check out before and afters on their website, it's Amazing.  My skin has done so well on it, I'm thinking of switching to Anti-aging.....

I did get the Glam-glo masks for Christmas, and I've read awesome things. I think I'm going to start those tonight. Spa night for me! :)
This sounds great I'll have to check out unblemish!
  • I've had the same problem. I've had the strangest breakouts.
I've been using Phisoderm face wash and Cetaphil moisturizer. It's helped for the most part.
