Trying to Get Pregnant

Any vegetarians here?

Hello! I eat a largely vegetarian diet (some chicken now and then), and we're TTC. I feel like I eat a pretty balanced diet now, and get plenty of protein from beans, dairy, etc., but I know those needs will change when I'm pregnant! So I'm just curious to know how you ladies get your nutrients, especially protein and Omega 3s, without eating meat.

Thanks!

  • Eclipsed is vegan........are you still here E??
  • I'm mostly a vegetarian too - I eat red meat and chicken, just very rarely - so i get almost all my protein from beans, lentils, chickpeas etc. Ditto Moo about the flax for Omega 3's.
  • i just wanted to butt in and say go heels!!
  • Go Heels indeed! :)  We're both Carolina grads. We live in NYC now, but my husband is actually from Chapel Hill so we're there frequently. We got to go to the UNC-Rutgers game over the break - awesome!!

  • haha, we were there too! small world huh?  my hubby graduated from UNC and now works for them.  i myself am not a grad, just a fan.
  • It's totally fine to be vegetarian or vegan when ttc and pregnant.  Tofu, meat substitutes, beans, edamame, and legumes are all great sources of protein.  You should read Skinny Biitch Bun in the Oven.  It's a very comprehensive resource.  HTH
  • I do eat fish, but no other animals.  I get my iron from spinach.  Aside from the fish I eat a lot of nuts, beans, cheese, and soy products.

  • I'm primarily veg and I'm on the nuts and lentils team.

  • I'm a pescatarian (I just eat fish, no chicken/red meat)... agree with the above posts about beans and legumes. ?I still eat peanut butter, not sure if I'll change that after we start ttc next month. ?I obviously get plenty of omega 3s from the fish a few times a week. ?I also take B-12 supplements. ?

I really want to read Skinny *** Bun in the Oven if I do get KU.

Is that what I am, a pescatarian?  I once heard someone call it a vege-aquarian (I think it was pink).  Thanks for giving me a label!Wink
